This was a masterclass on Reverbs and Delay! I absolutely adored his analogy on depth and space perception when it comes to Reverb and Delay. Really made me rethink my approach on this topic. I loved how he kept different reverbs but with similar purpose inactive to quickly tackle different situations rather than wasting time looking for the correct one. Really saves a lot of precious time fiddling for the correct plugin.

Yiou got crazy skills, I always love where you end up with the vocal sound. I hear everything you do when listening along with you but I just don't know the exact plug in to get the job done. @InTheMixJoeCarrell
@InTheMixJoeCarrell 11 ай бұрын
Sure. Anytime I find something I really like. I will go ahead and save that as a preset and (if it’s not effects unit that’s currently active on the aux channel) select “make inactive“ from the pop-up menu on the left. So, if I decide I want something different than my most often used processor, I can make it inactive and take a listen to some of these other pieces that are sitting idle waiting.

So great. I wanna try all of this. Also goes to show how important a template is. ONE thing I like to do a lot is taking a tape machine like one of the Waves ones, and I'll set up a slap back effect. Then I put the left speaker at like 1/8 and right speaker at 1/16 beat and then make one speaker louder than the other. You can make the timings closer together and the volumes between the two pretty close. But gives a cool effect. Its my John Lennon effect.

Is there anyway I can a template for Pro Tools? The busses and auxes of course.
@InTheMixJoeCarrell
@InTheMixJoeCarrell Жыл бұрын
If you mean create a similar Pro Tools template, absolutely. Use the IO settings tab to name them, something memorable beyond the generic “bus 1-2, 3-4, 5-6, etc.”. Then, when you create your sends and aux returns, you can make the aux names match the sends names and it stays much more user-friendly. Vox Dly Short, Vox Dly Long etc and save as a template. So much more intuitive than the generic default names. Best wishes

@@OopaOooopa only one would be in an active state using DSP on each aux return. All the others that you see Grayed out above and below are made inactive. They are just some favorites that I saved there to pull up quickly in case my first choice isn’t the right choice. I’m not sure what DAW you are using, but in ProTools you just click on the insert and choose “make inactive” from the pop up. It’s super easy thing fortunately. I’m sure most DAWs have this option. Once you find where to click and choose that it’s a great thing. Maybe Google it for your chosen DAW

Oh man that song from Mackenzie… i miss mixing tracks like that… so many things you can do to the vocals to make them sing right into your soul. Back in 2016 i was mixing an album for one girl named Domiqiue Pancner, i was literally crying over some songs because i did a such a great job.:))))

Do you guys ever had to deal with unexperienced clients who aren't ready to listen their voice in harmony or with effects? Usualy I feel myself restricting my creativity when mixing vocals.

Usually my less experienced clients want way too much verb!! Haha. But yes sometimes that is a problem. Thank you for watching!

SSL need to do channel tolerance modelling like brainworx SSL emulations, Its too bad the Brainworx one is better than the native SSL one that would sell me more the UC1

I’m a mega fan of both! I’m unapologetically a fan boy for the SSL sound 😂

@@InTheMixJoeCarrellFit perfectly your style, Neve only would be too sweet for you I guess :P

@@DarkTrapStudio I do use neve on kick, snare, bass, and some leads when tracking. When mixing, I often thicken the kick, snare , and Tom’s with neves prior to SSL. And I like them on pianos too. Great high end and the 2254/33609 works great on them too. Have a good one

@@DarkTrapStudio yeah I’m a big fan of the 360. Allowing me to use some other channel strips here and there with hands on is exactly what I was hoping for.

There are other ways to create depth. As we know sounds get duller as they get further away. Before reaching for the reverb try EQing a sound by rolling a lot of the top end off. You get the sense of depth but it's not awash in reverb
