Last English man to win the European Cup. First man to win a treble in English football. Icon.

For me growing up i went to my first game at ANFIELD in the boys pen in the KOP with my dad and granddad and I’ve been going ever since I’m privileged just like the people of my childhood to have seen Liverpool lift so many cups and I’m still doing now with my daughter and son but in Joe Fagen i feel for him, i was there when we played at Hysel and for me to see Joe crying well that did me it was an horrendous experience being there but you have to say it killed Joe he didn’t deserve that whatsoever but he will always be remembered as an inspiration for what he achieved at LIVERPOOL god bless you Joe Fagen 👍👍👍

27 Likes and only four comments. Come on peopIe, this is a top notch, genuine football man. first saw Joe Fagan, running on as the sponge man at my beloved Derby in the mid-70s. He looked striking, one of those faces that seemed only to come out at holidays at the seaside. In other words, happy and confident. It's often said that the people who count would have respected him, praised him. I understand he gave a rollicking to Souness soon after he arrived. An economy of words, and not all printable. A very nice man, you felt there was more to him than football, and one of the nice guys you really wanted to stay nice. Good documentary. Thank you.

Thanks pal, that’s so cool you saw him in the flesh. This still might be my favourite video I’ve made so thanks for the support!

We were a bit unlucky with Laudrup. We offered a 4 year contract, which was standard in England, but he didn't want to be tied down that long and was lured by Juve who told him he'd be playing with Platini and Boniek and Brady...except, as there was a 3 foreigner rule, they couldn't play him, so he was farmed out to Lazio for 2 years. By the time he got in the Juve side, it was being broken up. Ironically, he got to play alongside Rush for a single season. Could have been a much better partnership if he'd signed for us, but in the end, we did alright with Molby :)

A great question for the “what if” gods

Definitely one of Liverpool FC iconic figures. Sadly over shadowed by Shankly and Paisley's achievements.

I know Joe had already made the decision to step down before Hysel, but he deserved a much better send off than that. It was a tragedy in so many ways, more so because it was avoidable. The Arsenal chairman told our chairman Hysel was a dump back in 1980 when Arsenal played the Cup Winners Cup final there and urged to get the venue switched. Both Juve and Liverpool asked for a switch, but UEFA wouldn't hear of it...

@@marcturner3647 True last years CL final was a pretty poor showing security wise, though not helped by incompetent French govt. Darmanin taking the cheap shot and blaming 'English hooligans' when in fact it was the illegal migrants terrorising English fans and also storming the turnstiles. This years wasn't much better and the Europa League semi with West Ham was quite frightening when the Dutch hooligans went for the players families in the stands. It was only a couple of West Ham fans that managed to fend of a mob of Dutch hooligans. God knows what they'd have done to the wives, girlfriends and kids of the WHU players if they'd gotten past those few brave WHU fans.
