The loss of Joe Flaherty is truly a sad day for me. I have as a complete a collection of SCTV as they have put out on DVD's. Like most, I found the show when I was a kid by accident by staying up late one night and seeing it like at 3 am on a channel that barely came in with the antenna (I lived outside of Baltimore and we could only get the Washington D.C. station late at night when the signal got clear - pre cable days!). To this day, (I'm 54 now), it is THE ONLY show I can turn on and feel like I'm back in that time period just for awhile. Yes, I can watch other re-runs of shows, but there is just something about SCTV that takes me back to the 'good old days'. Thank you Joe for all the laughs and fond memories!

I know, right? 💔 A friend broke the news the following Tuesday, and I completely lost it. Not once in my 35 years of crushing on him did I get to meet him in person. A hug from him would've been a trip. That's what affects me most. It's hitting me harder than Harold Ramis's death over 10 years ago.

My answer to the "if you were stuck on a desert island and had only 1 DVD" question, has always been "The Full SCTV Catalog". Full disclosure: No one has ever actually asked me that question, but that would be my answer anyway.

RIP Joe! I was in the midst of a two-day marathon of rewatching SCTV for the umpteenth time when I got the news of his passing. So sad he was such a funny and seemingly cheerful man. I work with a friend with a small KZbin channel, and I even have a channel, where I was trying to find Joe's number I found a few of them called them up but either they were the wrong ones or they didn't answer, to try to do an interview also with Joe. But I guess he was getting sicker from this interview forward. I might not have been able to do it anyhow. But I do miss the chance of being able to talk to him he seems just so good natured to talk to. I'll definitely miss him. Maybe he and John Candy are making God laugh now.

All sketch comedy shows, except Monty Python, owe a lot to SCTV for trailblazing tv comedy. What came out was In Living Color, MAD Tv, Reno 911, Royal Air Force & 22 Minutes. RIP The Legend.

If you watch his performances, what makes him so funny is his 'faux gravitas'. He always brings this self-awareness of acting dignified to all his roles. That's why the wheelchair gimmick to gain respect made a lot of sense for the Guy Caballero character.

SCTV usually came on later than SNL; really late. Hard to get good ratings at 12:30AM on Saturday. Friday nights some time between 9:30 PM to 12 AM would have been perfect.
