Correction, Finland DID exist 800 years ago. Just not as a nation, but as a province. The same province is called Finland Proper today for a good reason. Historically speaking Finland Proper (Varsinais-Suomi) is the original, actual Finland and hence the name of the province. Since the capital of the new nation was formed in Turku, the nation chose to refit the province name to the whole nation and the province took the title of Finland PROPER.

There are tons of white people in Brazil... TONS. A lot of 'em mixed in with the indians and blacks but in Sao Paulo, Porto Alegre and many cities in the south there's a majority of white people. Also, Brazil had a segregated society up until the 40's and after the war they even granted asylum to many nazis that were escaping Germany... So, yeah.

"You hurt the ones closest to you". Swedes and finns are pretty much the same people. Finland where a part of sweden between years 1157-1809. We might be harsh but in the end we love each others as the brothers and sister we are.

I have to say, even though I've read that Finns are considered more Russian than Scandinavian, they actually seem happy and pleasant. (especially compared to Americans) American women sometimes seem very uptight in this type of interview.

Sweds are more like russians. Their languages are related to each others. Swedish and russian are in the same big indoeuropian language group. Finns are compeletly opposite to Russian ppl. Very different ppl.

Living in Turku, I chose the long swedish starting from 3rd grade and even there we only barely managed to put a class up. We were 1, or 2 short, but they managed to arrange it anyhow. Given this experience in Turku of all places, which has a strong fennoswedish community, I find it hard to believe it is going to be easy to arrange those lessons for the willing in all places. Afterall, class sizes are already small up north and some parts of the east.

It's so weird. I live in Fairbanks, which is just barely farther North than Finland and there is absolutely nothing reminiscent of their culture with ours. I suppose you could probably fit 100 Finlands in the land mass of Alaska. So I'm sure pure size probably has something to do with it.

Well, private guns are allowed in Finland as hunting weapons are considered private gun. Also hand guns are available but modern rules make it quite difficult to get the permit for one but if you have grounds to get one, you will probably get the permit. Basically "aseenkatolupa" is something that gives a permit to carry weapon on a public place and it's usually not accessible for civilians. "Hallussapitolupa" let's you own a gun and those are as common as flies. Usually these two are mixed.
