Unbelievable playing from both guys. Joe just smokes on the first solo.. And it's not that Johnny Griffin doesn't play a great solo, but compared to Joe he comes up short.. Having said that, objectively it also come down to personal preferences and Joe to me is one of the greatest tenor players of all time.... I hadn't heard this track before thx so much fer sharing..

Griffin is swinging, those dotted eighth notes , a hard bop ,happy feeling make for a nice contrast to Henderson playing in the cracks. I don't see jazz as a contest between improvisers ,more like a comparison between artist like Miro and Picasso.

Coming of age in 1978 Id have to say the 80s were great for jazz! Playing learning listening for pleasure also. Many giants were still around like Dexter etc in peak form. I learned who was who in the 70s when so many labels were invented in music. Jazz even had a ' fusion' scare lol. I came from funk after soul and didnt want to play anything that said' blues' lol. Ashamed we all came to blues and luckily jazz took me there late 70s so I consider myself behind the game into the 80s!
