I think about the situation where users of the newest Apple or Android phones might complain that the Light Phone seems expensive but also think about most of those users get those other phones from their overpriced providers who tie-down users with contratcts that, in essence, are a mortgage to pay for those phones?

Yup. 100% agree. Personally I just pre-ordered the LP3 as I've been leasing an iPhone 15 pro from Visible. We'll see what the transition will be like come 2025.
