I always thought this was the best track in the Laughter and Lust album, and this live version absolutely does it justice. If you want to know why Joe Jackson is one of the best musicians out there, this is exhibit A. A well-known cover, a classic Blues piece, and Joe does it his way and leaves a definitive impression in your mind that he could take over an audience at will. By the way, the band is an A+.

What is impressive here is that this blistering version (that fires on all cylinders) comes on the heels of Joe giving it his all in a sensational version of 19 Forever.

That was amazing . She gave those drums a beat down . Peter Green approved . He might have said , there could have been a smidge more guitar though . And seriously Joe's voice knocked this out of the park and the bongos and maracas are the star instruments .

This is such a bitchin modern day version of the tune. Why couldn't Joe just have his band jam on this tune for like, ten minutes??? Instead, it's just a 2:45 exercise in wild excitement that could have been so much more....

Works for me....besides I hate critics why fuck with other people's creative efforts. Question: Great, great song....I'm interested to know if any if anyone has an opinion about the lyrics: In the second, stanza is the sentence, "But don't ask me what I think of you; I might not give the answer that you want me to," a continuation of God's comment (that's how it reads) or is it consistent with the first stanza (the narrator speaking back to God)? I really prefer the latter because if had a chance to talk to "God" that's what I'd say.
@written1211 жыл бұрын
Does it work? Just before it came on, I was thinking the answer had to be no. How could j.j. , for all his musical virtues, do justice to such a tough-minded song as this. Jose's no blues man! Well, it works. I still prefer peter green, Korean and co. Version, but this has style and tension.
