It is important and AMAZING to understand that this album was recorded and mixed live DIRECT to a 2-track master. There is no multitrack master or mixing after the fact. There is an old Mix Magazine article that explains the technical details. I have it someplace…I hope.

I saw it too, in Utah. Notice how there was a long pause after the song before the applause? Dude was a fcking prick on this tour. Pretty sure the audience was scared shirtless to make a noise and suffer another ass chewing. I liked the music but I threw this album in the street when I got home from the concert.
@williamlee21122 жыл бұрын

@@williamlee2112 It was a good concert. I was young at the time, so paying good money for the 'sit on your hands and silently worship me' behavior was pretty shocking to me at the time. I can appreciate the music but could never support his career after that.

I was working for The Roundabout Theatre at the time that they performed this show. My little costume shop was next to the lighting booth, and I had to keep on my own schedule for the next play that was scheduled to load in the week after. This show was the first public performance of these songs, recorded live, for the album, and filmed. Their rehearsal hours were long, and there were masses of special equipment being hauled into a compact, glorified lecture hall. It was all quite miraculous, and one of the most memorable weeks for me.

This album was recorded in a special conditions. The few people who were could not make noise an f it was one of the first album recorded digitally
@MaxRubow9 жыл бұрын
+Miguel Mikelo Mikelo I own this LaserDisc and IIRC they asked the crowd to remain silent until they knew each sone was finished because they were recording direct to digital (it was Jackson's first CD). By recording "direct to digital" meant that there was no mixing board. Each mic and instrument were going direct to the recording without being modulated. So if one thing sounded louder or softer than another thing, it was because the musicians made it that way, not the technicians after the fact. Great Album. Bonus points! It was released as a 3-sided album, with a single groove on the 4th side to prevent damaging a phonograph stylus. Name 3 other famous 3-sided albums, each one "handling" the 3 sides differently than all the others, including this one (making 4 total).

I've got this in LP, and still listen to it :-p. As far as i remember, this album is "unique" with only three sides, so on the fourth side you can read "There in no music on this side". I was such a "lucky guy" at that time as i saw JJ three times on that "World tour". He always said how much he hated cd music copies, and, as the album was a live one (recorded with 4 tracks in NYC during 3 shows) asked Madonna to do the same (stil makes me lol)
