This is one of the loudest pops I've ever heard by the crowd in regards to a player winning a title/frame.... They went absolutely ballistic when Joe was just potting those last few colors in.The only other time I can compare it is the 1985 last ball final & Ronnie bringing up his 1000th century against Neil Robertson where the crowd rode that one all the way through. ... but this crowd.... awesome!!

And living close to him growing up the whole family was like that and when he suddenly appeared on TV although he should've been making the area proud it was all about him. Snot faced little shit. Now he knows he isn't the greatest in the world he pretends to be everybody's best mate. But if you listen to him closely you can still hear the 'I'm better than you' in his voice.

@@bendream544 Ha - that's interesting. I recall when Alex Higgins was banned from tournaments (probably with justificaiton) in early 90s but Hearn being Hearn got round it by organising mini tournament exhibitions as he was still the biggest draw. One was planned for Aston Villa leisure centre (sold out) and that twunt Henry refused to play him. Yeah mate you wouldn't been a 10th as rich without Higgins (with his many faults) paving the way for you

Davis was in 8 finals in the 1980's - winning 6. He admits he is still haunted about his black ball loss to Denis Taylor in 1985, but had no problem losing to Joe - who was playing awesome snooker.

Griffiths missed an easy colour when 12/9 up against Joe in the QF. From that moment on Johnson played snooker like a man possessed. won the last 4 frames against Griffiths, thrashed Knowles with a session to spare and Steve Davis couldnt live with him in the final. one remarkable stat about Johnson is apart from the two years he reached the final he only ever won one other match at the crucible. remarkable

@@baggieboy1473 Being of a certain vintage, I was snuck in as a boy to the 1972 final (Spencer v Higgins). In those days, the crowd not only smoked and coughed but were free to talk and move about, all during the match. Each player was allowed to have someone in a chair next to him in his corner, Alex had his sister, Isobel. It even rained on the table but both players agreed to continue.

i remember watching this and was happy when joe won it. Becouse ye knew steve would win it again and again, and people forgett especialy kids at age 12 that i was back then, that these guys are playing to pay to pay there rent and have to win as much money as possible. They werent over paid footballers who were guaranteed at least 2 million over the next 3 years and just ran about a park often getting carried as a passenger as its known. And set up for life. These men here had it alot harder in terms of training at least 6 hours a day maybe every day. And if they won 20 grand that year then thats all they had to live on that year. A dont know how the players that won nothing got by? They must have did other work surely. In the 1970s and 80s alot of players would buy pubs or a snooker club, it made sense to invest what they had. Then when the money became alot better they were all millionares even if they lost, they just threw matches. And got 60 grand at least. To lose. That was in the mid 1990s wich by then i stopped watching it, when alex higgins stopped playing. To me by then every player played the same way? And thats not entertainment. Its boring. Its on my tv just now and i cant watch it.

Around 1986-1987 Joe Johnson was on fire and as good as anyone in the world. It was no fluke either. He was a top 16 player rated by his fellow professionals. To have beaten Davis in the final was an incredible achievement. To have reached the final the following year against the “nugget” was just as good a feat. When he had his potting hat on he was electric and a wonderful character too. Legend in his own way. ⚪️🔴🟡🟢🟤🔵🟣⚫️.x

i like these tables alot better too very forgiving pockets...nowadays you can only roll a ball along the cushion into the pocket at a certain speed..usually it has to be very slow...it sucks because it limits your positioning with the white ball....also acute angles have to be hit dead perfect on todays table to.
