Joe Louis Arena: The Final Days

In this video I walk around what is left of the former home of the Detroit Red Wings, the Joe Louis Arena, during the last stages of demolition. The Joe Louis Arena was home to the Detroit Red Wings from 1979-2017. The arena site is located on the western edge of Downtown Detroit right along the Detroit River.

went to my first game in the 08 playoffs against nashville, went to plenty more, also saw the 23rd consecutive home win against san jose. many great memories. rest in peace joe louis arena.

I remember the Victory Parade for the 2008 Stanley Cup going down Woodward Ave watching from The Historic St John's Episcopal Church across from The Fox Theater and Hockeytown Cafe all the excitement and joy that the Wings brought to the City of Detroit was amazing to watch #LGRW

Wow. Desolate, and hemmorhaging Detroit had the funds to build and trash a relatively new arena in less than 40 decades. Our latest Madison Square Garden has been around since 1967.

Keep watching this channel, Detroit does have 3 great new or newer stadiums in the city. Beyond this deconstructing, downtown Detroit is coming back to life and is actually quite nice these days. The success is also slowly spreading out from downtown That said, the Joe did have history and a culture all its own which is sad to see go.
