I would love to visit the Motown Museum as I've seen some of the bands on the label live and I would like to stand where they stood. Seems to have recovered a city from the terrible time when it went broke. Still love your videos and your lovely smiles.

I went to Detroit twice and the second time I went my mother and I volunteered with the greening of Detroit to help plant trees in this distressed neighborhood of 7 mile road. We enjoyed our visit and checked out downtown which is probably my favorite downtown in any city i visited in the US. Sadly, My mother, Edith Maria Johnson passed away from Bile Duct Cancer last Tuesday night and she was only 70. I was reminiscing our time together when I looked at picture of us at the Detroit International Riverfront. When I have the time, I’m going back to the 313 to check out the city and volunteer to honor my mom! RIP mom

Our present Mayor should receive lots of credit. We needed someone who could manage crisis after crisis and make tough choices. I'm proud to be a Detroiter for Seventy years and PROUD of my city. That said, I won't forget what Dan Gilbert has done for Detroit. Has invested his heart and soul in to the city that we all love at great sacrifice to himself. THANKS Dan.

Dan Gilbert is EVIL. He made his money on sub prime mortgages and is stealing from the tax payers. He also funds the IDF--carrying out war crimes in Gaza. All the "good" he does is for himself. Any donations he makes allow him to further takeover the city. And don't get me started on the Mayor. You can love the city, but you need to do research on the politicians.

Well if you been here that long, he wasnt the only Mayor who had tough crisis and did well for real Detroiters, if you lived in the suburbs, Its not Detroit to me. As a teenager living in Windsor, Riverside dances was the practice venue for Motown groups to try out their routines. I saw a 12 year old Stevie Wonder performing to a very small venue and we got to see him up close. Many other Motown groups sang here on Saturday nights, entertaining all kids who never knew what stars these groups were to become. These a very fond memories of mine and nobody talks about them. We also would go to Detroit to witness the Motown Revue, everyone was there, all day, group after group, the Temptations, everyone. Loved it so much.

WONDERFUL to finally read a very positive story and acknowledgement of my beautiful Detroit. While she remains imperfect, she and the people of Detroit share a glorious story of Redemption, economic survival and cultural faith. I had been frustrated by efforts to brand Detroit as a deep tragedy of crime, Black shame and a dashed hope of how past racism was a good thing. This program also provides powerful edit on Detroit's past, present and future contributions. Thank you!

I admire and appreciate your enthusiasm for "America's Great Comeback City," Detroit. I moved here about 3 years ago and I've fallen in love with the city: from the history to the potential, I'm excited for more to see it for themselves. I didn't know some of these places you mentioned so I definitely learned something new. I was actually in the Book Tower within the last couple of months and even took a picture of the replica tower but didn't realize there was a whole room with a history lesson. Can anyone go in there and is there just a door I missed lol? I would love to explore whatever parts of these buildings are open to the public. The Fisher Building is another cool one with Pure Detroit gift shop and is a theatre just down the street from the Motown Museum. Detroit is rapidly changing as well so there are some things being built that are not here today but will be in the coming months or years like the completion of the Joe Louis Greenway, Ralph Wilson Centennial Park, Gordie Howe International Bridge, Hudson's Detroit(GM is moving their hq to what will be the 2nd tallest building in the state behind current hq GM Renaissance Center), and my favorite the reopening of the abandoned Michigan Central Station in June. You might also like the Mbad African Bead Museum where you can buy necklaces and whatnot some of which are actually from Africa and a secret activity of kayaking through the Venice like canals of the Jefferson Chalmers neighborhood. I really want to do this but there are 1 or 2 companies that do group excursions for a couple hours around $50/person if I remember correctly.

Hi Ewa! I'm so glad we've convinced you to visit Detroit! 💗 It's a fantastic city and now is an exciting time as they rebuild and grow. This video is a snapshot of things to do but there's so much more as well. Thank goodness the older buildings weren't demolished so they can be given TLC again and made beautiful, like the Book Tower. They just don't make buildings like that anymore! Hugs back 🤗

As someone from Detroit, just gonna say bluntly, it’s great seeing young white people with big platforms speaking positively about Detroit and pushing the city on an international platform. Detroit is the most underrated city in America. Even tho I had to trade it for the sunshine and palm trees of LA, I’ll never forget where I came from.

I don’t understand why you have to say WHITE young people…can you explain?
@elitealice
@elitealice 3 ай бұрын
@@jillhansinger4095 because Detroit is overwhelmingly black and poor. Just the facts. And most young white people live in the burbs. If the city’s gonna come back it needs wealthier people living in the city for tax revenue. Additionally, people take praise more seriously if it’s from a younger white person than a black person saying Detroit is nice. Sad but true.

This unique feature should be instead up, so head over to Windsor. 1st the water front and its views of Detroit 2nd Willistead Manor and just walking around the neighborhood 3rd Devonshire mall where they still have a Hudson’s, able it Hudson’s Bay (closest mall to downtown Detroit) Ojibway Nature Centre, Caesar’s Casino theatre, Little Italy ….. Oh and you can take the tunnel bus over.

We love it! Are you from Detroit? We made another video about food and drink in Detroit...curious if you're familiar with these spots! Here's the video: bit.ly/detroitfoodie :)

@EileenAldis I was born and still live on the East Coast but have been making trips to the Detroit area to visit extended family for 25 years now. I've also taken several trips to the other areas of the state. It's spectacular along the West Coast and up to Petoskey, etc. Anyway, I've watched the comeback in person on my various trips. It's such an unknown story for most folks in USA. Great video. You mentioned a couple places I have not been so I intend to put those on my list for next time.

The Henry Ford Museum isn't in Detroit, it's in Dearborn. Detroit does have a very nice library, cool science center, and several other contemporary art museums. I think we also have the oldest goth club in the city, City Club. A place that James O'Barr visited a few times. 😊

I really loved your video. So many places of neat architecture & the history there was much more diverse than just about automobiles as one might otherwise expect. Super cool in many, many ways. Really enjoyed your video so much. Great seeing you & Marc again after a while since the last one made.

Thanks, Kevin! So glad to hear that! 🥰 The architecture is amazing and more and more buildings are being restored to glory. We loved doing a walking tour to take it all in.
