I love how when Joe plays his solo, Dave appears to sit in wonder at the master doing his craft. Not until he’s nodded to does he turn around to again play. Respect for a fellow artist like that is awesome to see.

My daughter watched the film Whiplash and was interested in drummers. I showed her some clips of Joe Morello on You Tube. She then wrote an essay nominating Joe for the NJ Hall of Fame. The NJ Hall of Fame recognizes musicians, writers, athletes, actors etc. who were either born in NJ or resided in NJ. I hope the committee inducts Morello, he deserves to be in the HOF.

That’s awesome!!! Hope Joe gets inducted he really deserves it! And also a big applause to your daughter for doing that.

Amazing jazz piece. Take Five. Genius. Have loved it for decades. Truly one of the great joys of being alive. I don't understand why certain folks don't get jazz. I say it's okay to like rock, country, classical; no problem. But man, for my money, jazz beats 'em all. Long Live Mr. Paul Desmond, Joe Morello, et al. Terrific stuff. Thank you.

A word about Desmond. He came up about the same time as Charlie Parker,whom he admired and even interviewed (still available on KZbin) But unlike a very small handful of alto players of that time(Lee Konitz among others)he sounded nothing at all like Parker. And even to this day, he still sounds like no one else. He was never at a loss for a perfect phrase in solo after solo.Profound beauty blended with humorous quotes was something Paul mastered as no else had or has.

This ...they played take 5 faster live .Which is to me ,sad ...it sounds rushed !! They always played live at faster speeds ! But,regardless,one of the greates pieces ever recorded/ created by a jazz musician !!! Joe Morello was / is one of the coolest/ greatest drummers all time ,very very top notch. 👍 👍👍His drum solo on the original recorded version is a must for listening 🎶 This piece was written by Paul Desmond, the sax player ( you could tell by listening to the weird rhythms / countings ) for his drum solo !! Amazing master piece !!! 👏 👏👏👍👍😍💜🥁🐉🎤💞

Does the cameraman/director frame shots to exclude Eugene Wright on bass? Once you're conscious of this, every pan, tilt, and focus seem to be intentional.

I have three drummers in my list of best ever: 1. DAVE WECKL -- Dave is so good he is almost scary 2. LOUIE BELSON -- 3. JOE MORELLO Any of those three kick Buddy (Show Off) Rich out of any stage And also notice how the best drummers in the world are either black African or Italian
i wonder why he played the whole solo matched grip

Did he like to switch up?
@ochocabra15423 жыл бұрын
usually, no. sometimes if he was doing a floor tom-heavy thing he'd match but even that was rare. this was a bit of a different solo than he'd usually do here so maybe he was just experimenting some ideas.
