I just want to say congratulations to Joe for overcoming his addiction to alcohol. Way to be a role model for the rest of the world. Everyone, it doesn't matter famous or not, can be caught up in an addiction. And you can overcome it.

I didn't say good-bye to my "old friend" until after the ones I'd loved and who loved me were done. I did time, lost custody (well-deserved), but I've said good-bye and when I hear this song, I celebrate and hope for those who are still hand-in-hand with the old friend, no matter the form it takes, that leads them so far away from what is freedom and joy.

For a sixteen year old to say that they can kind of relate to this song is so messed up. Joe, you're quite possibly my hero. I'm so glad i was introduced to your music and grew up listening to it. And i'm insanely blessed to have met you. I have nothing but thanks to say to you. You've changed my life so, so, so much. You were the glue that kept my family together. You ARE the faith that my brother holds onto. You're the only thing that keeps me sane. ... Just, thank you times a million.

On July 10th of this year I said goodbye to an old friend of mine. I quit liquor last December but beer and wine wouldn't quit me. At the bar right before I went on to do my show I had already had 6 beers, then after my performance I turned to my wife and said "I think I want to be done". And in just 3 short months once my mind was made up for good I've dropped about 22 pounds of a beer gut, got a good job, and my marriage has never been stronger. I apologize for rambling but this song performed by this amazing artist just got to me.

I spent about 15 years in meth addiction. I was broke, broken and homeless. On July 28th, 2003, an angel dressed in a police uniform arrested me for domestic violence. I had never been to jail before and when the handcuffs went on me I felt as if a ton of bricks had been lifted off of my shoulders. I knew at that moment that the hell I was living was over. And it was and is.

How could someone give that a thumbs down. I've been a Joe Nichols fan for a long time. That's quality, not like that crap they call country today. Have you heard Carrie Underwood's latest? Be honest. I don't know what kind of music that is.

bigchicken88 Good for you, but maybe you can get help with something other than smoking tobacco, i got rid of my coke addiction with weed after consulting my doctor. and i am on my way to quit tobacco as well. nicotine is really bad for you, at least you can quit weed anytime with 2 weeks withdrawal, but tobacco takes years, so you probably should consider taking the lesser evil. and stay strong.
