I think Richard got more words in than in the Brian Blessed one .. but might have to listen again to be sure.

The difficult thing here is that I'd never even heard of Joe Pasquale before Stew's routine about him

The swimming pool guy diving into the shallow end is what one of our college lads did when I was at college back in 1981. We we were allowed to use our town Leisure Centre facilities for 1 morning a week as a class of 16-18 year olds. Some played footy. Some did badminton or squash. The rest of us would arse about in the family leisure pool. One of the lads decided to impress everyone with a full on swan dive into the 3 feet deep water as Joe says. He looked like he had been dragged down a cheese grater when we dragged his bloodied body out. It was semi superficial wounds eventually. But not half both incredibly dramatic and funny at the same time when it happened. Luckily there was hardly anyone in bar us students at that time on a midweek early morning.

Listened to thr whole thing on a long drive at work. He was absolutely hilarious. My only exposure to this guy was Stewarts routine referenced in these comments multiple times. Surprisingly funny and endearing guy it turns out. Thought maybe you'd ask him about the (90s Comedian?) routine but it didnt need that combative note and Stewarts views aren't Richards of course. Really great podcast

Hey there's a lot of comedians I could quiz about joke theft, appropriation, not least the person who criticised Joe.

@@Herring1967 Are you suggesting a certain Mr Lee is not as squeaky clean as everyone thinks he is in this regard? 😬
@brianm2881

I loved Lee's routine about Joe Pasquale, but that routine was 18 years ago or so. It's entirely possible that Pasquale never heard it in the first place or forgot about it if he did. The other thing is that one of Stewart Lee's main things is fashioning routines which incisively criticise people. It's often so over the top that it would be hard to take seriously as his true opinion, and he even takes jabs at himself like when he did his internet comments routine. So, if Pasquale did ever hear it and was offended by it, hopefully he heard some more of Lee's work to know that's just kind of what he does. Now, if you'll excuse me, there's someone in my garden...

@@grahamlive I am suggesting no comic is, but I recall Stew doing Billy Connolly's teacosy bit, having heard it from a friend and not realising it was another comedian's joke. So it's a shame that most of the comments about Joe are about that bit.

@@brianm2881 Perhaps Stew is being over the top, but I don't think a lot of his fans get that part of the joke. As is evidenced by the number of people who are referencing that routine here.
