Sérgio Mendes speaks fluent English, but he would have a thick Brazilian Portuguese accent -- and in fact, I don't think I ever heard him sing at all. He's a great musician, composer, arranger and producer (although accused in his homeland of stereotyping his Brazilian roots too much to suit American tastes), but I don't think singing is his thing. "Never Gonna Let You Go" was launched on Brazilian TV with a video showing Pizzulo singing with Mendes' wife Gracinha Leporace, but I knew right away she was lip-syncing for the same reason -- she wouldn't have native-level accentless English. The actual singer was Leza Miller.

There is one thing i would like to share about the song "Never gonna let you go" by my good friends joe, liza and sergio.. That song is composed by cynthia weil (words/lyrics) music by barry mann in 83' that version was the one that hit #1 for 4 consecutive weeks on billboard hot 100 chart and in adult contemporary chart before sergio mendez. Liza miller and ofcourse joe pizzullo recorded that song, dione warwick also has her own version of this song and stevie woods in 82' but sergio mendez's version is the one that rocks the music chart. And i forgot 1 thing, this song is originally submitted to the american band earth wind and fire by the composer cynthia weil (lyrics) and barry mann (music) but they decided not to record the song.
