The only thing stupid thing here is trying to use this term as a means to isolate and villainize a generation. It's English, we don't emphasize gender when describing most things. Ironically, these morons forget to point out that Spanish does gives feminine and masculine indicators on all of its words, even objects. Novio-boyfriend, Novia-girlfriend.

Down here in Latin America we generally believe it’s quite ridiculous what you guys are doing with that word. Some people will actually find it upsetting, negative cultural appropriation. Nobody will understand you if you use Latinx here, they will be very puzzled. Even more with the plural form “Latinxs”. How are you supposed to pronounce that and differentiate it from “Latinx”? Terrible choice of words. Oh well, I guess it is an English word now, because that’s definitely not Spanish.

If an English speaker wants to refer to all Spanish-speaking people in a gender neutral way, the standard form has been 'Latin' for a very long time. The attempt to switch it to 'Latinx' is merely an effort to control your speech through constant correction in order to break your will.

We were in class from 8 am to 4pm and I was doing homework until 12am that night just to get ready for the next day. It was one of the best things I ever did, I had such an amazing experience studying abroad. Toms sisters program was probably even more intense, and I'm honestly jealous! Its hilarious how he brings up the word "coger" because it reminds me of funny times in High School. He is correct, It simply means "get/grab/take" in most of Latin America. And Like Tom also said in Mexican Spanish it only means fuck/hump. I remember i took Spanish literature in HS and my teacher would get so frustrated because the novels we read were from Colombia where that word means get/take but my class was mostly all Mexican descent so everyone would burst out laughing at some of the combinations when we she would read out loud, she would tell us to grow up and that Mexico is the only country where that word means something filthy, but i just learned something new because per Tom it also means the same in Argentina lol 😂

@@garrusn7702 he does pass tho. The way racial/ethnic groups work is you have to feel like you belong with them, AND they have to accept you as their own. So my dad, he's arab but he swears he's a white man. While the census might think that, OBVIOUSLY white americans hate arabs and would never accept arabs into white society, so it cancels out. In order for someone to be a member of a race/ethnicity, they have to identify as such, PLUS the group has to accept them as a member

What's funny is, Joe is unknowingly being a bigot. Those comments pretty much are saying if you're not white protestant you aren't American. I know Joe isn't trying to be offensive, but that's why progressive minorities have these PSAs about it. And for the record, Latinx is dumb. Latin is the English word for Latino, and that doesn't just include Spanish, it's all Latin people. If you just want Spanish, say Hispanic.

It’s only Latinx when referring to an individual that asks to be labeled as that, whether you want to oblige thats totally up to you. I hate that people that dont speak spanish or other heavy latin root languages such as french, dont realize that the deference between the gender roots is important for context and without them it would be impossible to tell what people are talking about, in french every noun is either male or female, dictated by la et le o l’, and its very important but hard to explain in english because you have other words that explain context instead of the gender differences

My personal opinion is that those that use the word Latinx don’t know the history/origins of Spanish. That’s condescending. We all must remember that all the Romance languages come from Latin and back in the day... everything had a god or goddess. Every living or non living thing had spirit and that spirit had a gender. The Romans adopted a lot from the Greeks. They were very inclusive! And that involves the mythology they had. Latinx is incorrect and sound ridiculous. If you don’t like it, then don’t speak the language. And for fuck sake, you can use the word Latin for crying out loud.
