I've been a Dale Sr. fan since I was like 10 years old. Decided to take my vacation and go to the 2001 Daytona 500 to see Jr. and Sr. run. Bought a handheld digital scanner and headset so I could listen to the in-car audio from both cars. I was standing in my seat on the backstretch just before turn 4, watching father and son race toward that finish line. Only one of them made it. Within seconds I knew, because I was listening. I literally couldn't talk to anyone, couldn't open my mouth. Nobody around me spoke. On some of their faces was nothing but disbelief and confusion, others just stood there with tears streaming down and clutched their loved ones. After the race it was more of the same. People began to speak in more or less broken or hushed tones, to each other, or in small groups. That entire day was the same thing everywhere I went. I've never seen an entire town affected like that by one person's death. So many people remained solemn on the day after. I didn't even speak much on the drive home. I have a photo of Dale Sr's transporter heading back to North Carolina on my wall, and my ticket is framed and on my desk.

Rogan doesn't know wtf he's talking about here. Dale is right, cars that aren't considered cool right now, will be cool soon. Tides change and people grow fond of things they once overlooked as boring or outdated. There are several cars from the early 2000's that are wildly popular and growing in fame every single year that passes.

Still won't be as cool as the 30s, 40's, 50's, 60's and 70's cars. If those 90s and 2000s cars and trucks are popular those other vintage muscle cars and hot rods are just gonna appreciate even more and become way more valuable than any car in the 2000s or 90s.

When we become adults, we have money and we buy the things we always wanted as kids. Prices skyrocket. A great example is the Ferrari 328, this was able to be purchased for 10 grand just 5 years ago. Now they are up to 100k. The Delorean, same shit. 10 years ago 73 Ford Mach 1s were crazy expensive, but prices are now dropping. It's a generational thing.

What Joe forgets about his mom's Cuda etc is that in the 70's the gov't stepped in and stopped the hp race and made the big 3 comply with epa and mileage standards. So even if her '69 Cuda was only 5 years old, it was still viewed with a respect of a bygone era. My first car was a '68 GTX. These cars were everywhere; SS's, Z28's, Roadrunners, H/O Cutlass.........you name it and we beat the ever lovin' hell out of them!!!!! To watch these car auctions and see these very cars bring outrageous money just makes me laugh at the fact that the new owners will never know the fun we had with them. Instead, they now own an icon of showing how much money they have. And on a sadder note; 30-40 years ago at car shows, you would always see several model T's proudly displayed by their owners. Now, with the changing of the guard, the model T has all but disappeared.

I love the G-Body Monte Carlos...especially the aero nose SS's. Now there's a shitload of aftermarket bolt on parts for them.

Wont be worth as much as 60's early 70's as they didnt perform as well... Remember old recorded times for 60's and 70's cars were off as 185-70 series 14 inch bias ply tires didnt hook thus cars were up to 3 seconds off 0-60 and 1/4 mile ! Basically all were 12 second cars if proper tires and drag strip tracks like today(didnt have the compounds then like today) 11 seconds for Hemi/440 6bbl Dodge/Plymouth and Ls-6 Chevelles and some 455 Olds/Buick/Pontiacs !!! My then 4 year old bone stock 68 Charger RT 440 4bbl auto,3.23 gear ran high 12's with bias ply 195 70 series...It had 185-75 series white walls when I bouth it in 1972 with 54,000 miles...In 1976 stock besides pro trac 275 wide bias ply tires it ran 12.60's bone stock...Stock engine never touched,I added headers and traction bars !!! It ran 12.30's with intake and carburetore change in 1980 and my 1st set of radial tires with 130,000 miles on the clock and wasnt my daily driver, those old cars had over 200,000 then ..I worked at a dealer and seen this !! 5 digit odometer meaning after 99,999 they went to 00,000 ! My buddies 68 Chrysler Town & Country Wagon with the 440 TNT (most had the non hi perf) used to beat 1986-1993 Mustang 5.0 5 speeds (automatic 5.0 Mustangs used a different head/cam and 20 less hp and less torque, people dont know this)...My Sister had 2 new Mustang GT 5.0 1 auto 1 5 speed ! LX coupe 5 sped was the quickest, off road exhaust, computer upgrade still couldnt beat my 1969 parts car 440 Chrysler New Yorker 4 door, with a caved in passenger side (got hit by a semi) car ran/drove perfect..I resotred a 69 300 using the fenders/dash,engine/trans/rear end and bumpers from it (still have the 69 300 2door,previous owner took the 440 /trans for a Coronet..I restored the 300 ,oh boy ).. My Mom had a new Monte Carlo SS 1985 model slow as hell ,my Grand Parents 1970 Fury 383 2bbl ate it alive !! Just left it standing still lol...Mom still has it and Dad is the original owner of a 440 6bbl/auto/3.54 gear Cuda,he is in his 80's..Car ran high 11's in 1970 2 weeks after he bought it,he added slicks that still spun 100 feet,retuned/jetted the carbs and not sur eif he had headers at that point ! Hemi guys were low - high 11's ,10's with cam change..Thats how it was..Then you had clowns spinning the tires and running 12's,13's,14's and saying yep thats it lol Clowns !

Cars from the 60s and very early 70s were classics even in the mid-70s because they didn't have plastic bumpers and the engines were not detuned because of emission standards. Besides that they just had better styling. A 350 cubic inch engine putting out only 120 horsepower just wasn't going to cut the mustard.

I have a 67 International 1200 4x4, 72 chevelle SS, 85 GMC K10, 86 IROC Camaro now and I had a 90 Mustang LS 20+ years ago in high school. This episode is 4 years old but Dale called the 80s cars and trucks being cool. The Chevelle has been a classic and well loved for years now. The 80s stuff was junk and thought of as white trash but now I’ve had more people trying to buy my IROC and K10 in the last year or two then ever. They definitely get a lot of attention nowadays and guys saying how they used to have one.

@@thebigv8644 🤦‍♂️ ur sad buddy. Everyone refers to all push rod vortex v8’s as a LS then you go down the line by clarifying which gen. The little name changes because there’s a different sleeve or different lifters or different bore size is irrelevant and if u were apart of the car community you’d know that because it’s pretty uniform to refere to all vortecs after 98 as LS (w/throttle body) or LT direct injecting. Only time you call each block by individual name is if you’re at the junk yard picking it from a Tahoe.

A good friend of mine bought an 86 C10 longbed about 8 years ago for dirt before the Squarebody market started to pick up steam. Wasn't the cleanest but it was a decent driver with a healthy 350. Had a lot of fun wrenching on it with him and doing burnouts and I regret not buying it off him when he moved. You'd have to pay at least 3x that amount to get the same truck today and I don't see values slowing down.
