I met Tim Dillon when he first started out doing open mics on Long Island. I was a middle-aged spectator looking for cheap laughs, which I sometimes did boisterously. I liked to see new comedians in their process of bit making and didn’t have money for the pro shows. If they were funny, I let them know-loudly. Tim was really special and brilliant back then and I made a point of following him when I could. He cut his chops in sometimes sparsely attended venues but he absolutely paid his dues. I’m not surprised by his rise. Irreverent only begins to describe him and I really don’t want to slap any labels on him. He’s also a phenomenal no holds barred restaurant critic (he knows where to get the best chicken parmigiana in the entire country) and can point you the one residential apartment building in NYC (15 CPW) where power truly sits and call all the other residential power buildings shitty wannabe imitations of it. There’s no way you can box him politically because he is a true independent thinker. He has a beautiful mind and you’d be extraordinarily hard pressed to compare him to any comedian past or present. Even the term comedian wilts in his presence because he can flow and pretzel serious social commentary into his bits. I’m glad he’s in LA and his star is rising. Despite his sometimes venomous attacks on people he was always kind to me and humbly expressed his gratitude to me for attending his open mics. Despite his ability to carve someone to pieces, he was a truly grateful gentleman behind the scenes. He will truly become a master of his craft, if he hasn’t already. By what I heard in this podcast, he still has huge balls and doesn’t give a shit for the most part. And he’s funny AF.
