My 9 yo daughter crushing 5.11cs and got her first 5.12d top rope last week. She loves Alex Honnold - she’s watched every interview and every video of him on KZbin. I think he’s a great role model; honest, humble, tenacious, hard working - so I’ve let her lean into it :)

@@jeremysmith2960 these are all in gym fyi. She can flash 5.11cs on autobelay consistently. Nationals comp just passed through and they left up their route when it was over so she got to top rope it. She had to work for it but got it. Not too many other 5.12s in our gym for her to noodle on. She exhibits a few similar personality traits to Alex and I just found her obsession kinda endearing, and because Alex is such a special guy I support it

I also have a daughter and she started climbing when she was 3. I also believe that Alex is a super nice and honest guy. Having that said, I will never recommend watching him to my daughter as I don’t want to have her being influenced by a guy with such a big free solo history. As a climber myself I truly hate this idea and I want to keep her away from influencers who promote that.

I love Honnold's takes on indigenous people that live in less developed parts of the world. Rogan saying they don't want shoes or TV comes across as confidently out of touch. Honnold has been to these places, often for climbing expeditions, so he knows how they actually feel about their lack of access to modern amenities. Ya'll should go listen to Honnold's podcast, it's tremendous.

This is leading up to the Tokyo Olympics in 2020. Climbing was sort of a disaster with the combined format. Should be much better this year at Paris 2024. They still have to do combined Boulder and Lead, but at least they separated out the Speed climbers. This has solved one of the biggest problems with the format.

I love seeing people with "ACTUAL" paperback books same with music I've always been a vinyl collector and have never bought a song on iTunes or anything because I like to actually be able to hold the album as well as own the artwork that the band put there hearts into and like back in the day it was very special to put a record on and just listen to the whole record, and I'm glad on one hand that it's started making a comeback but then again it sucks because I was able to get records for cheap but now the price has gone up BUT I'm totally fine paying it because as a fellow musician I know that is what helps the artist as well. Now mp3 are nice if your working out or whatever but nothing like the sound of a record😁
