The principle of the atomic battery goes back to the 40's - 50's. The original plan was two steel spheres one inside the other and electrically isolated from each other. A sample of radioisotope is placed within the inner spere and radio particles ionize the inner sphere (by knocking electrons loose). You take him the wrong way...he's not a soothsayer : he's explaining how things work and how they are connected - from there he extrapolates, but it's the details of how everything is related in geo-politics that are fascinating. No one is ever really accurate at predicting things ,because the world is just too many moving parts - he knows that;he's said so.
