Sean Carroll has exposed some of what Krauss says to be complete nonsense. I'd like to see those 2 have a conversation because I think Krauss is using language that can appeal to a broader audience and in doing so is getting the physics wrong as a byproduct of using that language.

I’m now convinced we have all been lied to on a grand scale. I’m not saying I believe either way. I’m not pickin a text fight here by all means. @markdelej5 жыл бұрын
ka boom!! Exactly and not one group of atoms actually fully knows how atoms work yet
@soumyaranjan46265 жыл бұрын
@@markdelej science is so damn fun dude! Like the other day I was thinking how they say 90% of an atom is nothing but empty space,cuz electron n protons only occupy small space. So even though we are solid but still we are hollow. Crazy!
@markdelej5 жыл бұрын
ka boom!! Well i did my undergrad degree in physics and that 90% of atoms being empty space is not true. It is just something people always say to try show that science is amazing but is not really the case. At the scale of an atom protons and neutrons are in the centre and around them is a electron “cloud”. This cloud is like the electron is smeared out into all places at once, and each position around the nucleus has a probability associated with the electron being there. But while nothing is measuring the electron, it is in a super position of all possible locations around the nucleus (like a smeared out wave/cloud). So when you see an atom drawn on paper of an electron orbiting a nucleus like the way planets orbit the sun, that is not real at all. However when you do measure the position of an electron round a nucleus, all possible positions will collapse, except one, where it will seem the electron is in one position. If you go on google images and type in “electron cloud” it will give you a better picture of an atom. Then type in “electron orbitals” and that will show you the complex shapes that electron clouds can be in. That is much more realistic to what is going on. The simple picture of an atom with electrons orbiting around like planets is still very useful for scientists as it simplifies the picture and we can still calculate and predict things from that picture, so it is a simple model, but is not actually real.

@ks90e7 жыл бұрын
123k1rky123 jmo119 No, if he's going to come alone with no opposition. We have to take his word like it's religion. Please help me understand this; THEY claim, there are black holes because THEY can view stars orbit around them however every repeatable, observable, measurable experiment that YOU and I can do will show all the stars rotate around the North Star Polaris in perfect circle without intersecting. Look up time lapse of stars! At one point in the interview after saying some bs without evidence he says "I know it sounds crazy but it's true" This is religion not science. You know you've lost an argument when you attact people's character and that's what Krauss does with Flat Earth. Even though earlier he mentions science isnt rigid and we should be skeptical. Haha wake up people and truely be skeptical. Rogan is a very critical thinker in many different subjects but for some reason he has a block when it comes to cosmology. Remember at the end of it all "scientists" like Krauss get paid a lot of money to create math that you and I CANNOT understand. Only the enlightened physicist after spending years on the one solution created will make sense of it. This sounds like religious folks and their holy book that only a few can truely understand the original texts. Hahaha, it's the same thing! I'm not religious so I can't believe anything that I cannot with repeatable, measurable, observable experiments prove myself. The great Tim Ferriss always quotes Mark Twain - When you find yourself in the side of the majority (Believing in scientists, instead of knowing the experiments) it is time to pause and reflect.

@Islayman Ohhh yeah he had 55 towels, blankets and pieces of clothing in his cell, like everyone else does, he was put on suicide watch for a day and taken off, very smart thing to take someone who you think might kill themselves off suicide watch after 24 hours. It is unwise to insist upon a literal interpretation of figurative statements of which the inaccuracy may, at any moment, be rendered evident by the progress of scientific discovery; but the fundamental propositions of religion, so far from having anything to fear from the discoveries of science, are strengthened and ennobled by being brought into harmony with those discoveries. And it is only when the religious sentiment shall have been enlightened by its union with scientific truth that religious belief, thus rendered invulnerable to the attacks of skepticism, will take the place of skepticism in the minds and hearts of men.

behdabra jmo119 No, if he's going to come alone with no opposition.

Was looking at related books and saw him co-authoring with with Krauss and someone else and will be reading this after. Prior to these podcasts I had much less understanding (near as much an interest) and am now very much looking forward to understanding these concepts with the simplicity these gentlemen are able to convey them to me to (with the understanding they fully understand them). Ideas that will blow my mind simply, "so amazing you couldn't make them up." To paraphrase a cliche statement. Truly hope Joe keeps getting guests like this on occasionally (or more than occasionally) because he's able to conceive of and ask questions I wish I could have thought to ask a mind like Krauss, where I might think I would but would be at a loss sitting down with him, Joe's interested for everybody listening and learning constantly himself.

Ok thank you... I felt like I understood immediately what he was talking about at first and then Joe got all confused for whatever reason and then Krauss tried explaining it with different analogies over and over again like there was some complicated point that I wasn’t even noticing lol. It’s just damn symmetry. If you call one thing positive and the other thing negative, you can change your mind and flip it, so long as you keep everything consistent
@griffinlester90986 жыл бұрын
Maybe I'm misunderstanding Gage Symmetry, but what he's describing seems like the most obvious thing in the world. He's making it seem so complicated but the fact that words are arbitrary and do not alter the characteristics of physical phenomena is like preschool stuff for any empiricist. Not sure what the big deal is. Am I understanding this incorrectly?
@Raptured_and_back6 жыл бұрын
This seems like labelling certain things doesn't change the way they actually work, they're just labels right? So, when you're listening to people deep into sciences, they talk about concepts that seem so face-palmingly obvious to people listening to them, however, it's the obvious stuff that physicists and what not are trying to break through because often times common sense can be destroyed by experiment/study. Now, gauge symmetry is actually a part of quantum field theory, and that's way too complicated to discuss, but the use of symmetry throughout physics in general is that it means you can apply equations to completely different systems. Coloumb's law (or potential) is identical to the gravitational force equation. F = Gmm/r^2, then electric force is E = kqq/r^2. Eerily similar right? The first equation describes that the force of gravity is dependent on the two masses interacting. The product of those two m's, the masses, determines the force of gravity between them. In the electric force equation, qq are the two charges, and the product of the charges determines the electric force. The others are constants (r^2 is the radius squared, which just means the distance between both particles squared). Now, symmetry is extremely useful in systems that are very similar. So when he talks about modeling ecosystems for example, differential equations can be used to determine fluctuations in populations. You could now apply that equation to possibly an entirely different system, like a cellular system, or a skeletal system, or a social system. It's basically a tool that is used to conquer new fields in physics and go into frontiers that are hazy. Does that make more sense?
