I've spent days doing laborious blue collar work, with 3-5 other men. None of which went to college. Often times on those days we'll go 3+ hours without talking while we work, because an episode of JRE with a theoretical physicist, a mathematician or biologist or a professional ultra marathon runner is on, speaking about the things they know best. This way of sharing knowledge with working class, rural men white, hispanic, whatever, who are otherwise locked out of it is why Joe Rogan is so wildly influential. The fact that a bunch of fishermen or house painters have the desire, interest or attention span to listen to a physicist be interviewed for 3 hours, is why Cable television is DEAD.
@925candyman3 жыл бұрын
Cable TV prices are out of reach for many people these days, that being another reason. I work with a bunch of blue collar people too, one of which likes books and reads a lot. He believes among other things that the Earth is about six thousand years old.

Brian Greene is (with his book the elegant universe) and everything he is done for science, is without a doubt, the reason why I got so invested in astrophysics/cosmology and send me down this path of constantly wanting to learn more, for more than 20 years now and giving me the feeling that I could 'understand' or at least imagine certain things I would never have dreamt I could understand. He is in my eyes one of the greatest scientists/educators of my generation. And I will forever thank him for that and admire his level of conveying his ideas. He kinda, on the science level, made me who I am now. Massive respect!
@gregorybaetens8056 Жыл бұрын
@@user-in4xs2fv8j I think so, I had some physics in high school, but nothing major. definitely not enough to read his book without a challenge, but he has an amazing way to explain the most difficult topics, in ways a layman can start to grasp these concepts, he uses a lot of comparisons to make you understand a concept. I read his book twice and I never stopped learning about astrophysics after that. That must have been about 20 years ago. now I am at a point I can not learn any more astrophysics without actually going back to school to learn the higher math you need to make some calculations, but apart from that, I think I can tell I know very much about what we know about the universe. and it was Brian who started this whole journey for me. I definitely recommend reading his books if you are interested you will learn without a doubt, even if you haven't had physics before. cheers

I became way more interested in Science, Philosophy, and Psychology and JUST NOW, He gave me the best example and advice on how to become what I need to be and what I want to be. I love you GREENE!! ❤️❤️❤️ I will be taking a year or more to understand Mathematical concepts and applications, so that I can apply them to the Scientific Work I hope to do in the Future. But no matter how u arrange all these physics ideas u can never convey to a blind person who's never seen blue what the experience of blue actually is. Thus, there's a set of things that can never be described by anything in science today eg consciousness, mind, ideas, emotions, bliss, pain, the experiences of music & art & blue & the stillness of meditation that is like a jacuzzi that is no longer bubbling. rare among many other of the few thousand persons living on earth today at the highest points of the continuum of general intelligence is his character: he cares whether he is understood; he is passionate about it in proportion to the importance of what he is communicating. in my experience, that caring reflects a fully developing humanness that is rarer even than his intellect. He is what his tribe deems "a mensch." I wish I could live to see him at eighty.

it is interesting that years of medical academia is learning medical lingo and becoming lawyer takes years of learning legalese that most do not understand . it is refreshing to have a subject that people spend a lot more time studying but can still have a normal conversation.

Please don't think that this.guy is deep or has any logical reason simply because he studied math and physics. The dude may by the fakest dumb intellectual I've ever come across. He literally talks in circles, contradicting things he said five minutes before and five minutes later. Dude is running from demons.

Brian Greene is a VERY bright mind. The fluidity of his reasoning and his eloquence are astonishing. But almost equally impressive is the fact that Joe Rogan manages to converse with him in such a respectful but leveled and insightful manner.

Brian Greene talks like he’s devoted to tell people what he’s learned; Degrasse Tyson talks like he has to explain himself about something you should already have known.

Neil does it that way because he wants you to be interested in stuff. He need that because he thinks we are going downhill intellectually. or at least is my take.

@@g32.recitales I really liked NDT and watched a lot of his stuff. by the time I saw him on rogan, I was more invered in the science community, but at the same time was more open to ideas that aren't approved by science and his behavior completely put me off, although the topics were interesting, his attitude wasn't. he was just spewing random facts about any topic that came to his mind imo. and what made it even worse - he cut joe off all the time which made it seem as if he was thinking his words are worth more than joe's...not a good approach at promoting science to people in my opinion. a scientist, especially astronomers, should be humble about their intellect because they're continously reminded by their work of how little they actually know compared to what is in the universe. that's just my experience with science - it humbled me the more I learned

Brian Greene has been one of my favorite "science communicators" for years.. There was a time when his Nova documentaries were some of the only films available on the subject of quantum mechanics and string theory. The Elegant Universe and The Fabric of The Cosmos NOVA series are still the best to this day.

Brian Greene is one of the few charismatic physicists that actually made contributions to the field. There are many "pop-scientists" Joe had on the podcast but its impossible to put Brian Greene in that category.
@deadowl77094 жыл бұрын
I believe Joe "hit it on the head" when he asked Brian Greene if it was possible for other scientist to expand into philosophy or art or something that uses your mind in a different way? Greene- "Yeah, some."
@Unhingedanduninformed4 жыл бұрын
what is your definition of 'contribution'? Every physicist on his podcast has made contributions to the field, in one capacity or another. So, I'm not sure I get what you mean. Carroll? Penrose? Krauss? All have made major contributions to the field, if in no other capacity than in making the content more digestible.
