I was one too. I grew up in a Democrat household. I disliked every presidential candidate I voted for. I lost friends during the Trump years. I ridiculed people who supported him. I think we all benefit when we can take a neutral stance, step back and critically think. Those in power don't like that. They don't want us to think. They use fear as a way to control. Think about that for a moment. Fear dims the prefrontal cortex and the thinking brain and causes fight or flight in the body which makes people more likely to turn to "experts" for guidance. If we could only learn to regulate our own nervous systems and access or thinking brain we can open up our awareness and use critical thinking.

As a middle-aged Canadian, I can attest to this same ideological transformation. In my younger years, I was a devout provincial and federal Liberal Party voter and never consider voting for the Conservative party. Now I can’t imagine ever voting for the Liberal Party. I heard a great quote a few years ago, that sums this up perfectly: “When you’re young and you don’t vote liberal you have no heart. When you’re older, and you don’t vote conservative, you have no brain.”

Actually, if you're young and vote left, it's generally because you want free stuff - free college, free health care, free food. I worked three jobs through college and paid for it myself. My mom’s side of the family was always hardcore left. They were never tolerant and always picked fights and called us names when discussing cultural and political issues. They waved things in our face to force us to either just stay quiet or be baited into an argument. It was so obnoxious. So I never saw the left as peace and love.
