@Quinton Rogers Productivity isn't high enough to justify a UBI just yet, but its getting to the point where automation will take over a lot of the jobs people do today. I would say in 50 years or so that society will look drastically different. We would have to tax the income of individuals or corporations and redistribute that wealth to keep the economy going. Otherwise the money will start to accumulate even more at the top and people at the bottom wont be able to fuel the economy. Its simply a logistical issue and isnt about laziness or responsibility or whatever. Some of the smartest people in the world acknowledge this is just the way the world is going. A lot of people won't have to work because everything will be done by machines. What else do you think is going to happen when the robot revolution occurs? You see whats happening with Amazon, right? Jeff Bezos is a billionaire many times over and robots are taking over more and more of the work. Soon there will be hundreds of millions of people without work. What then?

@Quinton Rogers there's plenty of fucking money, especially if the rich would pay their fair share. There are corporations in this country that make billions and don't pay a dime. Trumps tax cuts didn't do a damn thing except make them richer. They're hoarding all the wealth and removing money from the economy. They're not reinvesting that money into workers, they're artificially boosting their stock. It's another bubble situation. Everytime there's substantial tax cuts and deregulation, there's a short boom and then a bust. Get ready for another economic depression coming up. And cut the military budget. We don't need our taxes going to the people who make new tanks and planes every year. Why should war mongering military contractors have more job security than the rest of us? And if you think someone is gonna get $1000 a month and stop working altogether, maybe you're the lazy one.

Privatisation of essential government projects leads to ruin , just look at the state of the British railway system as an example
@SaintDuck5 жыл бұрын
Key Points: the Govt does things that it doesn't have to. Once it DOES do that thing it then assumes TOTAL control over that thing to the point of excess. Examples: water rights, drug laws, try to license and open any type of business, etc . I want the drugs given to me by my DR. to be certified, and that takes govt. involvement. Why do they then insist on control over anything else that I choose to consume? tobacco,weed,mushrooms,psilocybin,kratom, and all others? We know the risks and literally who the hell are they to tell me otherwise? Every Govt agency creates a monster of some sort with some petty bureaucrat insisting that his rules are the only ones that matter.

Here is what people don't understand. When you flood a market with cash, ie give everyone an extra 1k a month, the market responds with higher prices on all goods. Go order a large Pepsi at any restaurant in the Hollywood Hills, now go order the EXACT same drink at any restaurant in Compton. When companies know consumers CAN pay a certain price they make it to where they HAVE to pay that price. If everyone had extra expendable cash the cost of everything is going to rise overnight.

The reason you have ridiculous student loans costs is because we've allowed the government to get into the college business they offer to send kids to school mostly for free and the schools knows the government will pay so they jack the prices up hence schools gotten more expensive
@michaellowe36655 жыл бұрын
The problem with paying for everyone to go to college is that college will get more expensive. It will continue to get more expensive until the entire federal budget cant pay for it. This is the same upward curve of healthcare. Without competition there is no incentive to reduce cost and every expenditure seems reasonable. When you look at current rates of college attendance and graduation it is clear that most people dont need college to get through life. They can always go later if they want. The 2/3 of people that go to college and dont graduate would have been much better off if they had put the money in an IRA. No Joe. It shouldn't be free.

Like the VA didn't privatize but they found a way to make their own budget so they can avoid this mess. They didn't like this stuff the first time so they worked for a way around it. Some of these Government agencies actually find solutions to things that protect people.

@petersolano5605 жыл бұрын
Joe, airport security was privatized prior to 9/11. Businesses cut corners in security to raise their profits (no background checks, no drug testing, very little training, low pay for screeners, poor technology etc..). Smaller airports would suffer as they could not afford a standard level of security and open vulnerabilities to another attack. I get your point, but that example of privatizing airport security has already been tried and it contributed to the colossal failure on that day.

2 things: -I am certain there are some things the government could privatise without major setbacks, however saying that there is a lot, and not naming even one, seems a bit overconfident. -the number you are looking for is 3,72 trillion dollars every year on "basic income" alone, if you realy want to give it to everybody not discriminating against children. That is more than the entice current US federal budget, which is round about 3,33 trillion dollars. About 1,3 trillion of that is social services which could be cut out, leaving round about 2,4 trillion dollars of extra income needed. Good luck.

Privatized services tend to suck, and be overpriced. And how would anything be different if those things were privatized? The government is shut down because it isn't funded, so even if it was private companies doing the work, the government is still the client and still is unable to pay.
@kevinsheane63625 жыл бұрын
Historically private companies, as oppose to government, cost more money as as much profit as you can get is the priority. Not saying improvements are not needed. Health care in the U.S.A. is by far the most expensive in the western world. That is with 25 percent of citizens having no or insufficent coverage. Been checking around and can't find anyone from other countries who say they would rather have our healthcare.
