Yes Aspinall is predictable, it’s predictable that he’ll finish you in the 1st round! Mike. Stop. It’s not Tom’s “power”. He’s a 260 pound man. He’s can crack. But he doesn’t throw to rip your head off your body like Francis did. A lot like stipe. He WILL unsubscribe you from consciousness if he catches you with what he wants to and intends to stop you. But it’s his angles and speed. It’s similar to Ilia. He hits guys from uncompromising angles. It’s not necessarily his power bc he’s still defensively responsible. Francis threw with no regard for return fire. That’s not Tom. We have limited tape but tape nonetheless. Cain’s point stands here. His ability to crack you is his IQ and angles and movements. The ONE thing no one can question about Jon is his ability to exploit this same concept. A motivated Jon as we’ve seen countless times against a major opponent has developed a very unique gameplan to stifle them. Tom isn’t “basic”. I mean he’s obviously no Rigondeaux in there but he’s proficient with his toolset. What we don’t know is how much more Tom has in that set. Bc if he chooses to go with the same 1-2, you’re out of your mind if you underestimate Jon’s preparedness for such a straight forward attack. Jon’s reach with this in mind will make for a very interesting dynamic to see Tom deal with. I don’t think cain’s point was Tom is simple in a way that was condescending or discrediting. I think what Cain meant was Jon has a well documented history of deploying hyper specific counter measures to very specific strengths and has a good track record in this instances of shutting guys down who are going out there to put on the performance of their lives.

If I speak trying to take my bias out, Toms weaknesses are his questionable knee, his high chin, his lack of experience in later rounds and less practice against the skill sets that lower weight divisions have that are now being translated into the heavyweight. However, looking at Jons fight with stipe, Jon doesn’t have the speed, traditionally doesn’t have KO power and psychologically is already struggling. Unless Jon’s fight IQ is completely impeccable or toms knee blows out to an oblique kick I don’t see Jon winning, in fact looking at his striking in the last 2 fights - he’s getting flatlined in stunning fashion.

Alex Pereira is not the P4P, any argument for that falls flat when the man has faced almost no opponents that tried to grapple him. Is he one of the best strikers to ever grace the Octagon, fuck yes. But he still "needs to prove" that he can withstand a high level grappler that dont try to outstrike him. As for Tom being predictable... from what footage there is maybe it appears so. Personally I dont think he has needed to break out the more complex tools he has since the 1-2 has managed to get the job done on almost every occasion. Remember, he has the least amount of available footage for an opponent to study in the entire UFC with the amount of fights he has. The real question is, what other tools does he have in his toolbox for Jon to worry about that no one outside his gym has seen. And that is another reason the fight is so compelling... Will Jon bring out stuff we have never seen before from Tom? Will Tom just 1-2 him to the shadow realm? Or will Jon ultimately go down as the unbeaten champ of two divisions, a true GOAT (inside the cage that is, outside it he is still a piece of shit(arguably inside it as well with the PED pops and the habitual eyepokes)). I for one want to find out, probably my most anticipated fight since Aldo v McGregor or possibly Islam v Volk 1...

I am certain Dana is not going to make a fight between Jon and Alex. Which leaves Jon with only one option which is the one he doesnt want. I don't think Jon is going to take that fight with Tom. It is all in it for Tom, and nothing for Jon. The proof is in the pudding. Jon wants to leave as the goat "undefeated", and it's just too risky to fight someone like Tom. It's just facts. Jon wants to leave special by defeating who everyone saw as the super hero like Stipe and Alex, then bounce. Jon rather have people saying "but you didnt fight Tom" rather than get knocked out, because eventually Tom could lose, and Jon will claim his loss as his victory by saying "and you thought he could beat me". When it comes to money, Jon is going to be set for life, with or without Tom. I bet is going to be tricky to vacate the title for an interim champ. I guess Jon will figure something out. 5:09 Fantastic insight. This explanation with a personal example given is a great way of explaining this in a digestable manner for those who don't fight or train themselves. It's similar to Alex's left hook. Everyone knows it's coming. You even hear Jamahal's coaches saying it literal seconds before he gets clipped by it anyway. ''Watch those jabs to the body, he's going to go up high with the left hook. You already know what he wants.'' That was legit five to ten seconds before he got knocked down by the left hook. Just because you know someone has a strength or likes to throw a certain punch or kick, doesn't mean you're going to see it coming in the actual fight. Everyone knows Tom has a 1-2. Everyone knows Alex has a left hook. Everyone knows Khamzat Chimaev is going to shoot across the mat for a takedown. No one has stopped them so far.

Aspinall is predictable to jones. But everyone is predictable to jones. Still doesn’t mean jones can stop Tom from doing it. And Tom still has to be able to land that 1-2 shot. Fighting is pretty basic. It’s all multiples of 1-2’s and who can impose their 1-2. I personally think jones finds a way. My problem with Tom is we don’t know about Tom in the championship rounds. We don’t even know about round 3 😂 not saying he can’t be effective. We just don’t know. But what we do know is Jon is good in later rounds. I think if Jon weathers the first 2 rounds he wins the fight. And if Jon can take Tom down and tire him early he’s definitely winning the fight. But these are all big ifs. That’s why we have to actually see the fight.

I love Tom, but I’d bet on Jones any day. Time and time again, Jones has faced the next big thing-the undefeated prodigy everyone thought was unstoppable-and every time, he’s been the underdog. I still don't see why the Jon Jones simps think Jones beating Stipe is so much more impressive than Aspinall beating Andrei Arlovski. Arlovski and Miocic were both 42 year old former champions. Arlovski had fewer title defenses, but Aspinall took him out faster than Jones took Stipe out, so I see those wins as basically equivalent.

Jon Jones isn’t just elite; he’s arguably the greatest MMA fighter of all time. His unparalleled fight IQ, versatility, adaptability, and composure under pressure set him apart. His wrestling, striking, and submission game are all world-class, and his ability to neutralize opponents’ strengths makes him a nightmare matchup for anyone. The comparison to the Jones vs. Gane fight is valid. Leading up to that fight, people were dazzled by Gane’s athleticism, size, and technical striking. However, Jones showed that raw talent and physical gifts aren't enough when you're up against a fighter with his level of experience and ability to exploit weaknesses. Jones dismantled Gane in a way that made it clear how vast the skill gap was. Aspinall is undoubtedly talented-he’s fast, powerful, and well-rounded for a heavyweight. But his résumé doesn’t compare to Jones’s, and he hasn’t faced anyone near Jones’s level of skill or experience. People hyping Aspinall may not fully appreciate the sheer depth of Jones’s skill set and the way he makes elite fighters look average. It’s not about Aspinall being bad-it’s about Jones being that good.

As good as Tom Aspinall is, Cain Velasquez is absolutely right; there are levels to this, and Jon Jones operates on a completely different plane. Aspinall is incredibly talented, but Jones has spent over a decade systematically dismantling the best fighters of every era. His adaptability, fight IQ, and ability to dominate in any scenario are unmatched. If this fight happens, it’ll be a showcase of how greatness always rises to the occasion. Jon Jones is simply the greatest to ever do it. 🐐
