The only problem with this ( i have no idea about anything fighting/cutting weight struggles im just thinking business wise so correct me if im wrong), if they were to do weigh in's 1 hour before the fight and the fighters miss weight, then theres a possibility that theyll lose millions of dollars. Example, Paulo Costa vs Khamzat.. big fight. Millions on pay per view. If one of them were to miss weight, then the event is cancelled. Fighters lose money, fans lose money and ufc loses money. Lose lose lose situation all around.

I get the sentiment, but honestly if you can make the weight, you can make the weight. It's a part of wrestling, BJJ, boxing, and every other martial art. I see weight cuts like any other skill in the sport, if you can cut 25lbs but other people can only cut 10, that's not your problem. People feel like cutting weight makes it unfair, but you could say the same about throwing low kicks, cardio, power etc... It's a part of the sport, if you don't want to participate in it, fine but don't complain when someone else is operating within the rules, and hungrier for an advantage. Whether they fight the next day (after hydrating) or the same night (like they used to, and still do in smaller promotions) you will NEVER remove weight cutting. Hydration tests and everything else has been around for decades, it doesn't stop it, nothing will except removing weight classes entirely, which isn't going to happen

@@kalocaploc124 No its not exactly like that in boxing, in boxing there far more weight classes than what i mentioned. And there are 4-5 different belts in every weight divison, and so different promoters and promotions involved, that is the other big factors that ruins it in boxing that we don’t have in UFC. All i am saying is adding just 1 more weight class, 2 if you want to inlcude 195. The leap from todays 185 to 205 is 20 pounds . 155 to 175 is 15 pounds. There would be less fighters missing weight as until today that has been a big issue in the UFC. And i would argue against what you said, we would definitely have more and better match ups. As there more comfortable and reasonable weight classes with not such a giant leap. So the fighter can get in the best fight shape without complaining about the weight as there are then a weight class for every 10 pounds. There would be more champion vs champion match ups also. There are so many talents with todays evolution in fighting and the popularity of MMA today is at an all time high so its only going to get bigger with more and more talents

3:44 I have said this ever since Khamzat won his first fight in the UFC. No BS. He isn’t a 170lber. He’s a real 185 who was picking on people in the 170s. And when he fought a real 155er that has to hit it hard to get to 170 in Burns. He went to WAR!!! Khamzat is trying to cherry pick. And I think he needs to fight guys like Paulo, Pereira, Covington, Usman, the gatekeeper Whittaker, Adesanya. He starts fighting guys like that and winning. We know he’s legit. He’s been picking on 170s and the only hellacious fighter he’s fought was Burns. Everyone forgets he ducked Leon Edwards in 2021 due to “Covid” but a week later he was FULL health again “smeshing” everyone. I think the dude is a freak and you know hes good. But fight the real OGs instead of ducking them and letting them beat theirselves to death by actually fighting each other like men. He’s just biding time waiting to pounce and hold onto his zero losses after everyone’s else has done all the smeshing. Mark my words that’s how it’ll play out.

There is not enough top level talent to justify more weight classes. That you have guys going up a class and excelling proves that.
@beastwaynes4868 Жыл бұрын
Not necessarily. It could be that some guys are so used to being so depleted when they're cutting a lot that they're not aware of the difference in their performances when they don't (which I believe was the case with a lot of them initially). There could be a marked skill increase when guys stop cutting as much (I've read about a number of guys who were spending almost their entire camp just focusing on cutting weight). The cut could be affecting certain guys more than others (for various reasons). The variables are endless. You're probably correct to an extent about the talent, but I guarantee you if they spend the necessary time and money the talent will come. Just look at the growth of the sport in the last 10-15 years. When I started watching regularly lightweight was the lowest of only five weight classes. Think of the career Frankie Edgar would've had if he started fighting at bantamweight.
@benlewis5312 Жыл бұрын
@@beastwaynes4868 There is definitely a lack of talent at the higher weight classes. Just look at the UFC roster. There are only 73 HW's and 66 LHW's currently active on the UFC roster compared to 133 LW's, 117 FW's, 111 WW's, and 104 MW's. The only weight class change that can be justified is creating a 165 and a 175 while getting rid of 170. If we started splitting up the higher divisions you'd end up having divisions of 40-50 guys which makes no sense. And talent is never going to come to those higher weight classes simply because there are not enough men on the planet to fill those weight classes. If you took all athletic men on the planet and told them to pick a weight class, 80% of them would fall between 145 and 185 after cutting weight. There aren't enough big guys in the world to make the higher weight classes competitive

@beastwaynes4868 Жыл бұрын
@@benlewis5312 I agree. I'm definitely not advocating for a new weight class every 10lbs, _especially_ not in the heavier weights. I do think 10lbs gaps between 125 and 185 makes perfect sense though; and I'd be very interested to see what would happen if all fighters had to be within 10lbs of their fighting weight between signing on the dotted line and the moment their first foot touches the canvas. The quality and numbers of the roster by weight will always fluctuate though, and LHW in particular is as weak as it has ever been currently imo. That's why I think the UFC needs to be a little flexible, and maybe try going back to the original format with the heavier weight classes. Hold a handful of grand prix tournaments for 200lbs upwards, then do an Ultimate Ultimate every year during international fight week or something.
