His songs are real as if you can hear a singer putting vocals down to his songs and yes he doesn't hold back what he's capable of. If you want to know I can list everyone for you and every riff, harmony that Cliff contributed as well.

@Steve Seeton using modes and scales to create classic Thrash solos for more than a 10 year run isn't "sucking" but alright. Name another lead guitarist in the Big Four who actually could construct his kind of melodies and harmonies that well. Dan Spitz is considered a joke, the Slayer guys suck balls and can't even make dissonance go in tune WITH a noise gate or tuner, Mustaine is just a chromatic version of Kirk's worst days, basically you have Poland from Megadeth's' first 3 albums.
@murk45526 жыл бұрын
@Steve Seeton read my comment below and fuck off, James can't even solo for shit and for the record Kirk was more musically trained than Cliff was in theory and that shows in all of their first 5 albums. Hell on "Load" he even made the Major scale work in a way that fit their band.

Guitar is ever evolving. I believe that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Kirk Hammett played guitar at THAT point at a higher level than most! HE and his bandmates were CREATING A NEW GENRE! Do you understand how important Kirks ideas musically were?! Kirk was inventing not copying anyone! I forget though we live in a time where if you want to learn a song you just click on KZbin and learn it, not EARN IT by long hours of practice and no EASY and CONVIENIENT methods like KZbin to skip through the theory and all essentials! I was learning in the 80's (and still am) and knew only a few guitarists because things were NOT easily accessible in regards to instruction because noone (parents) didn't have $ for a kid to TRY to learn and because of the lack of EASE and DRIVE put it down a day to a week later to NEVER pick it up again because "it's too hard" and "I don't have anyone to show me"! We live in a time where EVERYONE wants the EASY way and clicks on a Steve Via lesson and learns something of brilliance without knowing the foundation and understanding the value of why he is doing what he is doing! It all comes EASY these days so it is easy to understand why you think you are the cosumate professional and critics! Kirk, THANK YOU for taking the HARD ROAD! Leave Kirk alone critics, because he didn' have the QUICK and EASY way like KZbin rd nowadays! METTALLICA RULES!!!!!!!

Interesting that half the comments are haters or defenders of Kirk Hammet. LoL I could have seen this coming though. In the 90’s, Kirk was overrated because we had all these new guys learning guitar. They didn’t know Dream Theater and Steve Vai and these more technical players. So Kirk was one of the best of all time... for them. And one out of 20 of these guitar players were preaching the way of Vai and Satch and the. As these noob guitarists heard what they were preaching, it went to their heads and then they’re say stupid shit like “Kirk Hammet sucks”. Here’s the truth. technically speaking, Kirk is not one of the best but what he writes is beautifully done. People remember his solos. can’t say all that for the majority of shredders out there. It’s not all about being the best. It’s about creating something people love. He is also part of Metallica, which is awesome. He inspired so many people who still regard him very highly. So Shut your pride down and enjoy creativity. Peace. ✌️
@joeblough2614 жыл бұрын
Exactly. Music is subjective, so there isn't even such thing as "the best". Is some guy who can break the world speed record the best guitar player? Sure, technical ability is important, but not all important...even crazy virtuoso eccentrics like Vai admit that, and it's why he worships Jeff Beck and Hendrix still today. Same goes to theory... knowledge is obviously helpful and a piece of the pie, but there are a million guys who can play a mode or scale in any key on command, but can't make any memorable music out of it. Like Satch said here, Kirk was part of the foundation of an entire new genre of music. I grew up in that era and many youngsters today don't realize that thrash metal like Metallica's early days didn't even really exist before that, nobody sounded like them. I'd take those credentials over some EVH copycat from the 80s that can play faster or "better".

Well to all the Kirk Hammett haters out there.. You are clueless. Music is about feeling and that’s what he conveys. He may not be the most technically proficient but a lot of other guitarists leave me cold. YOU GOT TO FEEL IT!!!

No, YOU are clueless. If music is about feeling, then Kirk's solos make me feel like taking a shit. Almost all professional guitarists use a wah to embellish their solos. Kirk lets the wah BECOME the solo. That's why he's considered a shit guitarist.
@neilforrest67476 жыл бұрын
Anthony Clure wah wah wah blahblah blah. I've been listening to Metallica since 1983 & he isn't a shit guitarist. If that's your opinion fair enough but Metallica are a great band & Kirk is a part of that greatness. Wah or no wah!

I met Joe when he came to Alaska. He signed my tee shirt ( 25.00$) 1990's while I held it. It was awkward to hold the shirt while someone ( joe) writes on it. . He said" just hold it with two hands". I was like OMG but only one hand was functioning because I was nervous. He said "just hold it there man"! He put on an awesome show. Glad to have shaking his hand. .That was the first time I ever met a superstar guitar player. my girlfriend stole that shirt, I never seen it again. Alien hand with Joe's signature on it please return.

Good to know I’m not alone! There’s one particular track I’ve been working my ass off on a track for the last 15 years and figuring out where to take it, how to navigate the movements and patterns better and bridge the gaps I can hear not flowing properly. I wonder which songs he worked longest on?

@BrianHunsakerMusic3 жыл бұрын
Well he's not a solo act. He doesn't write everything. The songs could be so good that an average or lame solo neither ruins not elevates it. He does have a great gig no doubt, and is a cool dude on top of it (personality wise).
@michaellrakes55214 жыл бұрын
Well, he's not lying. He taught both guys and even Steve Vai and that's common knowledge that both will even tell you. He said Steve though, was his best student for having ZERO experience when he approached him and went on to become an equal if not greater guitarist to Joe

Lol come on man. There are a ton of local musicians who I know who can run circles around Kirk. The point is this, Kirk wrote some great music and melodies. He just only uses a few techniques. Drowns out his mistakes with Wah, only uses pull offs for solos now, strictly pentatonics his whole career ect. It doesn't make him bad it makes him limited in his creativity.
