Loving this tune, and it has a mega groove. That riff (that I would describe as a double stop riff) at the beginning is SO cool
A lot of viewers are slating the performances of Joe & Steve - so in case it helps, here is a quote from Robert himself, an excerpt from his online diary (13.6.2013). The man obviously has a lot of respect for both artists:
"23.39 ... Joe Satriani at the Civic in Wolverhampton. I continue to have no idea how Joe does what he does. Great guitar duels and duets with Mike Keneally the Hero, who can keep up with Joe (and Steve Vai too). Whereas I had to practice long hours and exert myself to stay close to Joe and Steve (G3 in 2004), Mike just blasts away."

Love how the true musical genius sits in the back with no spotlight. He doesn't need or want to be a rockstar. He just wants to make music. That's why I've always loved Fripp.

Joe and Steve are two enormously gifted guitarists but Robert is from another galaxy altogether and in fact he looks on like a father watching his two kids enjoying themselves. Fripp is and always will be the greatest font of inspiration to me (with The Beatles of course) as a musician and as a human being ...Paul

Years ago I had the privilege of meeting and chatting with R Fripp at a Frippertronics concert for WXPN in Phila, that where held in a small music room. No photos or autographs, but he was very nice and open to talk with. He started the show by explaining and demoed the FT setup, reel to reels. During the show, after a song or two, he announced that this is the question and answer portion. Everyone just sat and stared at him, so I blurted out, Mr Fripp what does your pedal broad and effects consist of. He went into great detail about his equipment and un plugged and handed me his volume pedal, for me and others to inspect. It had no makers name, he said he had it since KK days. I was very lucky to sit in the first row, a few feet away from him, at times, I could actually hear the notes he picked on his LP Black Beauty, before he let up on the volume pedal. At another time in the show he asked for someone to shout out a chord, that he would play in. Someone yelled E minor, to which he smiled and said that's my favorite, then he wailed away on his Les Paul, with its incredible tone, seated like a mushroom. A really cool and intimate show, much dif than the many KK shows I have attended.

Fripp the master of understatement and humility and creativity. Mad as a snake but a genius. Other two not bad, certainly technically good shredders, and not deserving of all the contempt in these comments. They go metal on a pice Fripp intended as metal. But this is Fripp's piece and his show. Bravo.

Fripp was such a pioneering guitar player and still immensely talented. Mad, of course, but that made KC such a great band. I love the way he just stands there and rocks out the tunes; nothing pretentious. Satriani's little homage to In the Court of the Crimson King at the end was a nice touch!

1980, Agora Ballroom, ATL, King Crimson Disipline tour. I was standing in back of the balcony, looked to my left and this very proper English gentleman was standing next to me. I nodded, he nodded back....then I realized it was Robert Fripp! He sensed the recognition, and quietly walked away. What followed was the BEST show I've ever seen.

I love how Fripp doesn't need to be in the light. He composed this masterpiece, plays it like you normally breathe, and makes the show with his art. I've seen the 3 of them in concerts separately, they're all amazing, but Fripp is still one step further... or higher.

Nothing more beautiful than A) Fripp accepting Joe's invitation to G3 back in the day, B) Watching Joe and Steve jam out on one of their childhood inspiration's tunes, and C) Fripp looking on so proud and happy. So glad this was posted. Vai and Fripp: two of my favorite composers. And Joe-- (goes without saying)a genius guitarist, and theory genius. Stravinsky would be proud of this musical invention.

As focused as many are on Satriani and Vai, this is of course originally a King Krimson piece, the master playing behind these two originally wrote Red. Robert Fripp is true god in the world of guitarist. And yes I have a great deal of respect for Satriani who of course taught Vai and a few other amazing guitartist like a old friend. Of course Fripp's style is that of an English gentlemen sitting on his chair playing while he blows out the most amazing guitar riffs

Interesting version--the arena-rock version, I guess. I do miss the intro/outro, though. (For those who don't know, the intro/outro features a diminished scale in a metric pattern of 5/8-5/8-3/4-4/4 on a chord progression of B-D/F-Ab/C/E; this is then transposed downward to G-Bb/C#-E/G/D, then the original is repeated, moving to a tritone E chord. Then the "double-stop" riff gets going.)
