There would, of course, be the constant annoying comparisons to Ed. But I think what Al was trying to convey, is that Satriani is at a creative level similar Ed's, even though their styles are different. It would have been glorious to have been able to witness Joe step into the guy's shoes that was such an apex player, that he changed the course of the river of Guitar-playing for generations. Had we'd been able to see Satrini show his expression of another master of the instrument, guitar enthusiasts everywhere would have considered the recordings as a master-class in rock guitar. What would have been...(?)

Id like to think part of the reason for joe being chosen is because alex probably didnt want someone who is a complete copycat imitation of his brother right down to the guitars and amps. There’s this great guitar world magazine interview with ed from 1990 where he hears satch boogie and calls it “a jazzed up hot for teacher” and says joe “has a little van halen in him” and im sure that probably was a track alex had been familiar with too

What Joe would bring to Van Halens music would be an unpredictable wild effing event. People would be there in droves. He's rather humble, and his integrity would shine. Seen VH 12 times, seen Joe 4 times. It'll probably happen in the next few years. Unless the (Great R3s3t) cancelation of free movement kicks in full scale. Have an awesome day 👋.

He shaved it all off during the course of promoting the self titled Joe Satriani record, which was released October 1, 1995. Nobody was expecting it, so it came as quite a surprise. Then he started G3.
