Opening Day 1999 I was at Yankee Stadium and it was cold, windy and raining. I was seated front row of Center Field bleachers right behind flag pole where Yogi and Whitey were waiting to raise 1998 World Championship banner. This was Yogi’s first appearance at Yankee Stadium since the summit with George Steinbrenner where George apologized. Seeing Yogi there again was surreal. Seeing him brave that terrible storm along with Whitey showed how much he loved the Yankees and the New York fans. Thank you Mr. Berra for a lifetime of memories. Thank you God for blessing all of us with such a kind, gentle and caring man.

Men like Yogi made MLB baseball the great game that it is, and the country a better place. We need more Yogi's. ⚾️⚾️⚾️🇺🇸

You're absolutely correct, unfortunately their isn't anyone else who could even come close to Yogi - His outstanding character and wit in many ways overshadowed his accomplishments on the field I have always heard about how Bill Dickey was not exactly enamored with Yogi - After all he was his replacement- I never heard Yogi say a bad word about Dickey

He was and still is my hero. I am an old man and loved this guy my whole long life. A real good person who happened to be a great ball players. Today's MLB players have next to none of his kind of class.

Saw Yogi at the stadium. My brother was trying to catch a ball during batting practice and lost his glasses. Yogi walked over and gave them to him. I wasn't 5ft from him. I still see it clearly to this day, his smile!

As a young boy, we would go to Briggs Stadium to see the Yankees. Just having Yogi come over and say, “Hi boys, how are you doing?” He would listen to us and tease us. Such a great man. Rest In Peace Mr. Berra.

I lived in St louis for several years about 10 years ago. One day I went and sat in front of Yogi's childhood house on one side of the street Joe's on the other side. Very unassuming houses. Two great guys came from there.

Truly one of the sweetest people I ever met was Yogi.. he was signing autographs at a mall in New Jersey.. and when I got to him for my turn he was rambling on about how the bagel they gave him I believe didn’t have butter on it.. it was the delivery and the pure hilarity of the comment that made it special.. what a treasure

I am fortunate to have grown up in the era when Yogi was playing with the likes of Mantle, Maris, Ford and the rest! He taught us all how to love the Game and along with that, to see the humor in life. He didn’t have the most natural talent, but he had the work ethic and the biggest heart! Thank you Mr. Berra for the example you set and all the things you taught us. Rest now with the Lord, you have fought the good fight!

"...didn't have the most natural talent." Even Joe Torre said something like that. But with all those Yankee sluggers, it was Yogi who led the team in hitting 6 years in a row. They didn't have MVP Award until 1955, when he had already had a great career yet he won 3 of them, finished 2nd in voting a few other times. Nine years he was in the top 10 in RBIs. Led the league in double plays by a catcher several times. Once went an entire year without making a single error. Six years he had more home runs than strikeouts. Amazing career.

That's why I was surprised at 2:25 when Joe said "Did he have great ability? Not necessarily, but he was a great player". I haven't looked up the records, but it seems that I recall that he had a great arm for catching base stealers, was a good catcher who could call a good game, and was no slouch at the plate either!

Yogi berra hit home runs and rarely stuck out held the all time hr mark for catchers until bench broke it in 1980 underestimated as a player was overshadowed by DiMaggio and mantle because they were more glamorous looking and flashier
