Folks will listen to him talk about weights, exercises and muscles and take it as gospel but the moment he talks about any type of discrimination he faced it’s dismissed or discredited. He didn’t paint himself as a victim he literally shared a story about how it was a lot of people that helped him on his journey and how one person was ignorant and racist.

I don't know. He always seemed very genuine to me when he speaks. Read his first book and read Dan Lurie book. They tell some inside stories about Joe. Joe was not a very honest business man and would screw a friend for money and self-fame. I knew an editor that worked for Muscle Builder & Power. If i were to guess, from the stories he told me, 90% of the article in Joe's magazines were big fish tales or just not true except the contest highlights.

Gee... can't imagine why! Guy juiced himself up and now people believe that he has something to say about weightlifting. Like most of the "greats," he doesn't actually know much about weightlifting. They just lifted weights. A good example of this is Franco - doesn't know how to lift weights properly if it would save his life. Problem is that lifting weights at ALL winds up bringing results. Compound that with steroids and you can get a "champion." Had they lifted properly they'd be even better, but they didn't. Now you look at claims of racism. We all do it... we all make excuses for things. Someone treats you bad it's because of A, B or C. But if you're black, like Robinson, you instantly go to the bogeyman of racism. I mean, WTF? Why would Weider have bothered crowning Oliva if he was this racist? No, Robinson is pissed off that he didn't do better as a bodybuilder just like so many of them are.... but he, unlike a lot of white bodybuilders, can instantly jump to his skin color as the excuse. Not that he sucks, or that he had a bad attitude (which he clearly did). He's a narcissist like so many of them and believed he should have done better. So when he didn't, it was Weider's a racist. No ability to look inwards at his own failings... but that is what Leftist society wants from blacks: a permanent underclass who stays there by being perpetual victims of their own skin color.

Some time ago I watched a couple of Leroy Colbert videos were he says he loaned Robbie $500 which he never paid back. Apparently it pissed Weider off. Seems Weider was loyal to friends but if you crossed him look out. I’m wondering if that had something to do with it. Leroy Colbert was the first black man to appear on the cover of Weider’s Muscle & Power in 1953. Plus he was the first man to have 21” arms. I know he was on the cover of Mr American magazine in 1960.

Weider was definitely SLIGHTLY racist towards Blacks as a young man growing up in the 1950's and 1960's. Joe was a product of his time Remember that Blacks found it hard to gain recognition in many areas of life outside of acting in Hollywood. But during the 1970's Joe certainly began to evolve as he grew older. By the 1980's Joe was a reformed character. Unfortunately Robbie met Joe in 1975 and it is a fact that Joe was still evolving with regards to certain attitudes that he held at that time. During the 1980's Joe behaved in a much better way towards ALL people - both Blacks and Whites!

Without the Weiders the sport would have remained in an indefinite state of dormancy for decades and as a result tens of millions of people to this day probably would have never darkened a gyms door with their presence or financial support. Though not perfect, they are to be celebrated entrepreneurs living the American dream, helping boat loads of others along thr way. With all the hands of black bodybuilders he raised who won the Mr. Olympia, I’m sure his conscious would not let him forget and make amends with him, yet he took it to his grave. And so this is why Robbie lost all respect for him. But now the question is raised as to did any of the other white bodybuilder’s know of this too? And if so why are they silent? He slept on the roof of Golds gym for months after being denied a contract He was suspended because of he complained forcing him to head overseas. Listen folks Mr. Robinson deserves a formal apology by the IFBB for not only was he a great bodybuilder but he proudly served this country for 20+ years.. God bless him. Robby's a much bigger man than I'll ever be.. If Joe toyed around with me like that, man...Joe's secretary would've had to call the cops on me. idunno.

Weider wasn't just racist. He was shady. All these folks didn't come together to lie on him. He had a fetish for big chest too, which was why Arnold was favored by him.

In 1975, I was 16 years old. There was racism in the air, literally. It has all but dissipated but has now rolled into blatant dishonesty, disrespect, and an escalation in crime.

Institutional racism in citadels of learning, the art world even in small towns, certain sports, entertainment and the music scene, martial arts world even there is a lot of racism. No matter what one. Does to make their dreams come true, there is always something hidden behind the bushes. But in that dark moment, there is always someone there to lift you up. Keep on keeping on!

They tested his attitude. They had a business to protect. A real man remains humble and understands he's owed nothing. What's yours will be yours.

Guys! I'm sincerely sorry to say this, but my conscience will not let me hold it back. I do not, for one minute, believe that JOE WEIDER ever said, "I Don't Give Contracts To BLACKS!" No Way in the World that Joe said that! Before you think I'm a Weider Fan, or former business partner...No, Hell No! I was a big admirer of the great, BOB HOFFMAN, of York Barbell fame. The Man that helped the USA get their first Olympic Gold Medals. Hoffman also gave millions to children's Charity's. He was also a WW1 Combat Infantry Captain and was decorated for his combat heroism. So, while I respected Joe Weider, I was Not one of his admirers. ALL the same, I attended two different Dinner Occasions in which Joe was the honored guest. Both times I chatted with Joe, and his brother, Ben. Both of these professional businessmen carried themselves with sophistication and class. The several hours that I spent in conversation with them makes me absolutely Sure that, JOE, or his brother, BEN, would Never dream of uttering a crude and racist remark to Any Person of Color, let alone a great Bodybuilder like Robby Robinson. What's Right is, Right. And, I tell You now, JOE WEIDER Never said those crude and cruel racist words to Robby!

The late Leroy Colbert spoke very highly of Joe Wieder. Leroy was 100% black. I'm sure race was not the problem.. Probably, clashing personalities and attitude more than anything else. Some people just don't mesh. Doesn't mean that someone is a racist.
