Jo Brand's comment was unacceptable, I agree, and came in the wake of a milkshake being thrown at Farage. Lucy Connolly's comment was not just less euphemistic, but crucially came in the midst of ongoing violence in the streets which often gathered at hotels holding asylum seekers. If she wasn't directly intending to stir hatred, then she was aware of how her post would stir up hatred. That is in breach of Section 19 of the Public Order Act 1986. To emphasise: In the 5 years since Jo Brand made that comment, Nigel Farage has not been attacked with battery acid. 5 days after Connolly made that tweet, Thomas Birley tried to set fire to a hotel with asylum seekers inside .

Pretty sure it was edited in from a later part of the segment, and might have been pre-prepared material tbh. These guys are very quick and I'm sure they improvise a lot of the gags, but I wouldn't be surprised if they also come in with a stash of written material to make sure there's quality comedy for the final product. Having seen interviews where people on TV shows describe how planned and confected a lot of the stuff being presented as spontaneous actually is, I'm sceptical of all of it lol

Milk and beer is sold in pints, almost everything else in metric units. Our heights are generally measured in feet and inches, our weight in stones and pounds (where 1 stone is 14lb, so a typical person might weigh something like ‘12 stone 3lb’). When cooking, dry ingredients are in grams, wet ingredients in millilitres, but spices or small amounts of liquids are in teaspoons/tablespoons. Like I said, a right old mix of units!

Cooking uses everything here: grams, liters, teaspoons, tablespoons you name it. We rarely use cm, if we go metric it's usually either mm or m. Hardly anyone uses yards cuz it's just so close to meters so might as well use meters. I thought British people exclusively used metric stuff, so thanks for teaching me otherwise.
