2004 mazda 6 door tear down broken spring part 1

Thanks for the videos. Watching them made this an easy problem to repair, I ended up with minimal damage under the Tweeter after wiggling the door panel free. I did find the easiest way to get the door unlocked after setting the outer door panel off to be; Detach the metal rod that connects the door handle to the lock mechanism. There is a plastic clip that catches on the rod and keeps it from backing out from the hole. Rotate the clip until it unclips from the rod and then the rod should come free from the hole on the handle. Lock the door. Push the rod downwards. Twist hard, then pull back upwards. This should reset the lock. Unlock the door. Push the rod downwards. Hopefully the door will pop open, if not repeat and try again.

I finally got my door open :) my uncle had to cut plastic cover that covers the rods .I also removed the cover panel that covers up the seat belt on the driver side and removed the rubber trim on the edge of the door .then it was easy sailing from there .reason we had to do all of this because the spring was caught in between the locking mechanism and was closing the door not to open

Every videos about this topic skip "that" moment, when the door opens. The way that this guy shows does not work. You can shake the rod for long years, nothing will happen.

I myself own a 2004 Mazda 6s with the 5-speed manual transmission 3.0L V6 engine. I unexpectedly could not open my driver's side door getting in and out. I had my car for 13 years, and I have never encountered this problem before, but from watching the other victims who own the first generation Mazda 6 in any trimline posting their videos on KZbin make me feel that Mazda USA must recall them.

I had same problem. Managed to get the inner cover without damaging it. Lost most of the pins. Got them from car junkyard. Double locking spring was broken. I got box of different springs and replaced with one that fit the most.Inner panel CAN be removed without damaging it. It's recommended to do it in warm room so cover isn't so brittle.

I got the door panel mostly off, and no battery disconnect needed. But in watching your video over and over can you tell me the process for getting the door to open, as far as the lock/unlock mechanism and moving the handle rod?@@joe0374

I got as far as ripping the door panel off and exposing the lock mechanism.. Pulled and bang and twisted the rods with no success... It's still stuck and won't open.. I had to take a rest as I was about to torch the car.. Any advice for the critical part manually opening the door???

crevis12 A lot of Patience, that's why in the vid I had to cut it out, If I remember right, try to open the door from the outside.

Well I got the door open after a much needed stress break.. Removed the latch and reused the fixed spring.. Total cost was $6 to replace the broken door clips.. And about. 3 hrs of my time.. :) I did break a few things when I ripped the door panal off.. But seems to have gone together ok

2004 mazda 6 3.0 6cyl : I have the same problem and it's been that way since May. I have to either pull a Dukes of Hazard or slide in/out of the passenger side every time. Kinda sucks if you wanna take a girl out lol. Anyone have any idea how much this would cost at a garage and what kind of place I should be looking for? I put an posting up on craigslist , figured it be cheaper, but after watching this video I'd rather not take the chance of some hack ruing my door. Any help would be appreciated fellas. Thanks

I went to junk yard and got the part for 35 bucks replaced it and took a few hours and some bashed knuckles dealership would have costed 230 for the part alone

I do believe I played around with the that rod and pushed on the door at the same time, that's why I did not take any vid on that part. That's how I figured out how to open the door, so one hand was holding the cam and needed two hand for that job. I hope you figured it out .

Hey mate you are a lifesaver, managed to use this to get the door open and working again. While the tear down has its difficulties, putting it back together (given that I removed the glass) was a terrible experience. Quick question though, When I did put everything back together the central locking no longer worked (e.g. if I turn the key in the drivers side door, none of the other doors unlock) I think I have forgotten to plug something back in. You wouldn't happen to know which plug I might have missed? Thanks again for the great vid

maybe at the Dealer, for me, I just used the old spring and bent a new hook at the end of the spring.

I started by the prying off and wiggling it off slowly till the clips popped out, in my case had a little damage to vinyl from removal. Just a few sweet words and it came off. Same thing with the rest of the door, just a little patience and time and you will get there. In my video , I cut out the sweet words of wisdom.
