I dont have any issue with the size of grill but the shape of G80/82 grills are really really bad.i meant how it passed even in design department.how but how i cant get over them.such a mess to beautiful cars.

When he first said he expected the newer car to be a full second faster on that mini 300 yard track I laughed way too hard... A few tenths sure, a full second maybe on a track 5x larger.

He said that as the X5M comparison did show up a few second difference on the same exact track, with a similar old vs new model test. So such differences are indeed possible on this track.

Don't get fooled. Almost every journalist hated the F82 when it came out. The new one being better doesn't fit the narrative of "they don't make them like they used to" applied to most manufacturers except Porsche, Honda and Toyota.

0:15 that body line from front vent to the tail lights is the thing that makes the exterior of both F80 M3 and F82 M4 superior to the G80/G82. On the new one it looks like designers didn't know what they want to do with the body lines. On M3 it looks somewhat good but not as awesome as on F8x

Great video Joe! I have an F83 (convertible) and i love the way it looks. Had me wondering if i made the right choice when i bought it 14 months ago. This video was really eye opening for me. The new version looks great - but I think the older one looked better and the difference in performance is not enough of a difference to make me have buyers remorse!

Really wish BMW M would have left the Stunning F80/82 exterior alone and just updated the interior and Tuned the engine. The G series isn’t ugly but it’s not a masterpiece like the F80.

Hi Joe, another excellent video! As an F80 M3 owner, I looked at the specs of the G80 and saw minimal performance differences (probably due to the increased weight). This video has shown that the gearbox on the G80 is somewhat laggy as well. I still cannot get over 1) the ugly grille and 2) the broken hoffmeister kink on the new 3 series. As a 25 year BMW owner (3s, 5s, Ms, Zs and 7s over the years) this generation 3 series unfortunately brings bad memories of the Bangle 7 series (ugly then, ugly now). The F8X M cars have defined flanks, very flared wheel arches, the power dome and proper sized grilles. The marginal improvement in performance and the design of the G8X cars means there is little compelling reason to change to the new car.

Exactly what I was waiting to see. I have 2018 M4 competition with full MPE and in M performance spec including a DTM rear spoiler. Yes it's showing its age next to the newer M4 but all in all I'd rather stick with mine. Plus mine sounds amazing with the full titanium M performance exhaust! A must have.

I owned an E92 Comp for 5 years and a F82 for 3. Both brand new. While the F82 was an incredible car I will always remember the E92 as the best car I have ever owned. - the most significant difference was the steering. I never had the same confidence in the F82 like I did in the E92. - moving on and can’t wait for the G82.

Does the engine feel tweaked/tuned compared to X3M? Looks like they've adjusted for smoother "getaway" and less smokey action overall. But in gear sport+ new engine is a weapon? Did you try 1/4 mile without launch? Does the G82 struggle like X3M out of launch and below 3k revs? Great vid buddy!

As an f80 owner, I have had a go at the G82 and as you really push it hard, you do feel the weight, somewhat and I resonate with this perfomance over the f82, these results, sort of stabilize the price of the f82 and f80.... But the G, Ms lare great cars, save for the grill..

@Joe Achilles, great review! I've been waiting for this comparison since the G82 unveil. Interesting to see how much extra traction the MPS4s made to the F82, i suspect MPSS would never launch so well. Also, MDM on the F82 is far more restrictive than on the G82, hence the comment made that it looked as though you were overdriving but in reality MDM on the F82 doesn't allow the slip angles the G82 offers that can be adjusted by the new variable traction settings. Would be interesting to see both woth DSC deactivated completely... Re the 2nd gear Rolling Race - the reason the G82 picked up so much quicker in 2nd gear is gearing. The 8 speed ZF has more closely spaced ratios - 2nd in the ZF is halfway between 1st & 2nd in the DCT ...it's all a function of Torque via gearing. Do the same test in a 6 speed manual G82 & guaranteed they will be dead even, the G82 gaining only into the higher gears i suspect. No doubt G82 is a weapon and dynamically overcomes it's mass.

The F82 looks so much better when it is next to G82. I had seen G80 and G82 in flesh and was never inpressed by the face. Could not keep my eyes on the grill for over 3 seconds or I would puke. Other than that, G80/82 is a big step forward.

What the ZF automatic does in auto/sport mode: it brings up the engine revs and hovers there for more power while using the torque converter until engine/gear shaft revs match. That increases power and torque for a moment - you can see this (and hear it) when the G82 takes of in auto mode. The DCT can't do that (other than in launch control mode).

Ive got a black M4 comp with red leather. 🔥. Just make sure to get the 'icon led' lights and the adaptive leds - this grey m4 looks great but doesnt have the icon's. IMO icon leds looks amazing and sharper and more modern and make the car look almost new. A chap came up to me in a petrol station a couple of days ago and said he has 2020 M4 too but my lights look so much striking. I explained that I have the icon led pack and he said his dealer told him he that. He didnt realise actually had the bmw adaptive led and felt ripped off after I showed him the light design on my car. He was gutted. For me it was a dealer break. You wont regret the f82, amazing and most colours look great anyhow. Snb was my first choice but I couldnt get red leather combi so went for black. No regrets! I still think they look better than the g82 but not seen new m4 yet
