I envy you Zach, getting to spend time with your grandpa. I lost mine in 1982. And I lost my grandma in 1980. I still miss both of them, all these years later. Treasure them and all the time you get to spend with your family.
@mikehughes49692 жыл бұрын
I was thinking the same thing myself. Mine passed before I was five years old. I can't remember his voice, or his laugh. But I can remember him sitting by my bed telling me stories. I can remember sitting in his lap as he drove, or how he'd hoist me on the roof of the car to watch the long freight trains go by. My grandmother passed when I was a teenager and I remember her vividly. She was a real character. She had a self described screw loose and the times I spent with her were some of the happiest of my life. Much love.

As a Grandpa I know how special it is to be able to make 1 more year in the woods with the Grandkids. My is off to you Zack and to you Sarah for spending good quality time with your Grandpa. I guarantee he will treasure that weekend and know you and Sarah will treasure the time well spent with him. He is soooo fortunate to have Grandkids that are willing to do this with him. And Zack you brought a tear to my eyes when you said “it just wouldn’t feel like duck weekend without Grandpa”. Way to go young kiddos!!!

I too appreciate the story here! But remember family will always adore you, even though they don't share the same interests, the are family/blood nevertheless. It may take a few years after you are gone, but they will remember times that you may have forgotten or not paid attention to. Blessings to you and yours!

I had wonderful Grandparents growing up but they weren't involved in anything I enjoyed doing. So I don't have memories of doing much together. I'm now 64 with a 1 year old grandson and I'm bound and determined to be involved in the things he'll enjoy. I love to camp, hunt, fish, BBQ, and do Cowboy Style Cooking. I hope if health allows to be able to share this stuff with him.

I LOVE the tradition. I love the family time. We have a similar yearly camping tradition in my family. To me it is a bigger deal than Thanksgiving, Christmas, new year, and Easter. Zach, when you said it out loud that when your grandpa leaves.... it's not the same... WOW that hit me hard because my grandpa left forever a few years back. You're right it's not the same, but it's up to us to keep it going! Your dad (love you Joe) is grandpa now. One day you'll be grandpa.... you gotta make it just as special for them as it was for you.

You said something, Zach, that I felt and have known deeply. When you're grandpa leaves, whether it's for the time being or altogether. We never forget and feel their loss. I lost one of mine when I was only four, but I still remember so much of him, of when he lived. I know it sounds strange to many that I remember back that far, but I still have sharp memories of when I was a baby in the crib on the family farm and so many more. Treasure every moment, mate. You're so lucky that he's still with you. On a higher note. It was great that you got some ducks. I had an old mate, that I worked with, he'd bring me some smoked wild duck he'd shot and smoked himself, as well as marinated deer... such wonderful tastes, that I'll never taste again... probably. Old-mate is long gone now and me, too in-firmed to even attempt. Thanks for the video and keeping me wishing to be well enough to get out in the bush again.

Zach another great video!! I totally understand what you were talking about camp and when your grandfather leaves. Sort of like our camp with my father-in-law, of course, my father-in-law passed away in 2013, but camp just doesn't seem the same without him being there. Jerod got to hunt a few years with is paw-paw and I am so glad that he had the chance to do that. If you have seen our videos of deer camp, you know we try to keep that tradition going that he started. Thanks for taking us along with you on your duck camp. Juddie - J & J TOA

Enjoy your time with your dad and grandfather as much as you can! We didn’t duck hunt but my dad and 11 of his buddies formed a Deer Hunting Club In 1958 and bought so land and built a 20 X40 concrete block deer camp building in 1962! I started going to deer camp with my dad in 1960 and have gone from the 8 year old running around the camp to the longest hunting member of the camp now at 70 ! My day was a only child but I always had Uncles at the camp for we were a family! Even though my dad has been gone17 years this month I have many great memories of the great times we ha together with him and all the other members! Sadly all the original members have passed on and there is only me and another son of the original 12 are in the camp now. We still have memories and making more with kids and grandkids now! Love y’all’s videos and here is for good hunting this year! From Scott Stringer, Pontotoc Deer Hunting Club in the Great State of Mississippi!

Still having your grandpa is an amazing thing. Mine helped me with my love of fishing. I have pictures of him fishing from the 30s all the way to the early 2000s. He was buried in his favorite tackle box. I have some of his ashes in my tackle box. He's been all over Canada , Minnesota and Wisconsin fishing with me. I don't know where my love of hunting came from. My dad and my grandfather didn't really hunt much but my kids and I sure do. 4 deer in the freezer every year and I don't have to buy any store meat.

My pap taught me how to fish from when I was little, I would just sit on the river banks with him in rainy UK. He gave me my love of gardening and growing food too. I cherish my time with him. He has been gone 10 year now, I still catch his voice in my ear or the back of my mind when Im at my allotment. Zach you remember these times you will remember your grandpas little stories when you least expect them they will put a smile on your face. Then you can tell those same stories to your kids as you teach them.
