Sometimes it’s not about harvesting an animal ! But, to come close with you’re loved ones and cherish another year of hunting. I’ve been hunting since my toddler years with my father, uncles and friends that have been around before I was born. Coming back to camp empty handed was not a really big thing for us. Why ? Knowing that friends and family driven hundreds of miles just for us to have a genuine moment and forgetting about the lives we have back in the city. From waking up at 4:30 in the morning having a cup a coffee before heading out before all the other hunters, from breathing in all the fresh air from the pine trees to coming back to camp and making lunch before heading out to our noon hunt. Telling stories while the foods is being made with a cold beer in you’re hand. Just having a great time ! I’m very thankful my pops took me hunting while I was a kid. Now that he passed away last year I know he a company me in all my hunts ! Nevertheless, my whole life I hope. I find it crazy how deer hunting opener is in August for us Californians we’ll in some areas. However, I know when hunting is done in California hunting starts in Minnesota cause you’re videos. I’ve been watching you for a couple years and I’m always anxious to see how you’re hunt goes.

A few years back, I saw a picture of a cute little cabin (tent) in the snow and decided to watch the channel to see what it was about. I'm so glad I did because I love it! Your family is amazing, and I get excited when it snows up there. Thank you for letting Zack talk you into starting this channel, and also for you other one you have. I've learned a lot from both of them and makes me want to get started building a cabin of my own. And thank you for letting us be "part of the family".

I don’t know how you stand some of the comments-ugh! Anyone who’s watched and continues to watch love what you do PRECISELY because you honor tradition and family, and resist the temptation to do different stuff that doesn’t represent who you are. Shoot a deer, great. Shoot a grouse, great. Be who you are and let us enjoy and see the value of constancy and integrity in this insane world-Awesome.

My Dad has land in Minnesota's big woods wolf country. The only way I have had success is to glass tree lines and clearings looking for bedded bucks, then using the wind to stalk them. Either that, or just looking for fresh tracks in the snow and following them. Sitting in a stand has been pretty much useless since the wolves moved back in.
@RVBob2 жыл бұрын
Don't wolves keep the deer moving making a stand a good place to be? Here in PA we have some high hunting pressure that keeps them moving. I've seen the same deer move past my stand 2 or 3 times in one morning.
@chucker6252 жыл бұрын
@@RVBob You're right, the wolves definitely keep the deer moving. The only problem is that wolves hunt at dusk and continue into the night. The deer move all night to avoid the wolves, then they go sleep when the wolves go to sleep. There is next to zero hunting pressure in most of the Northwoods portion of the state. My dad's land is in a 750 square mile permit area with only 2 hunters per square mile. Mostly all heavy timber. 2021 data says that only 150 bucks were taken last year. So, predatory pressure at night coupled with a lack of human pressure during the day = nocturnal deer patterns. In contrast - My regular permit area is in the central part of the state. It is 650 square miles. Hunter concentration of 12 per square mile. It is mostly agricultural with mixed patches of timber. The 2021 data says 2,463 bucks were taken. The only reason I hunt my dad's land is because the season is open for an additional week in the northern part of the state (and it is nice to go hang out with Dad for a few days). Otherwise, I wouldn't even bother with it.

Man, that's brutal, the game and fish up there has done a huge disservice to you all. Years and years ago most of our deer (the south) came from up in the northern states, it might be time we ship you guys some back. I've got several doe and ample supply of basket rack 8 points you can have 😂. But in all seriousness, they clearly have a management issue, be it caused by the wolves or whatever the case is, it can be corrected but that lands squarely on the powers that be to take control. I commend you all for continuing the hunting tradition even in the lean years.

Yeah I got hit by the ice storm to. Problem was though is that we didn't get any snow for quite a few days. I ended up wearing my ice fishing cleats because it was literally dangerous just going to the outhouse or woodshed. Me and my neighbor spent most of a day clearing downed trees. We've got around 5 miles of two track to make it to our vehicles. Was glad to get some snow finally because it was literally a skating rink lol.

For years I deer hunted on lake of the woods in Rainy Rover Ontario, not to far from you guys Joe. We used to get nice bucks and some years they offered up to two additional antlerless deer tags. Well the antlerless tag draw was at 50% success rate this year and my friends and family who still hunt the area said the deer population is still way down. One group got one spike and the second group got a spike and a 7 point. I guess the combination of a few hard winters and predators is taking it's toll.

Hey Joe, Such a beautiful place to spend deer season. I give you credit for sticking with it while times are slow! Is it legal to put food plots in there? If so, do a small one in front of each stand in the late summer. Even do throw and grow. Im sure getting light could be a challenge. It’s worth a try 🙂Thank you for the great content.

Joe if you remember the last day of the season last year in northeast minn, wind gust were extreme, over 50mph. I was up in my deerstand I had to hug the tree a few times cuz I thought I might be going down.. thought to myself, what are you doing out here?! So I got down, took a long walk, zigged and zagged through a spruce swamp thinking I would kick up a few of the deer that I was sure were bedded down back there. Didn't see a single deer. Short story long, I got in my truck and started heading home when I noticed all the deer running all over, so I hopped back into my stand, fought the wind and killed a nice 8 point on a day I thought no deer had any business moving around. Deer are somewhat predictable, but in any sort of weather, you just never know!
@dond56652 жыл бұрын
.good luck on the hunting but it looks as if there are zero deer in that area. no tracks even on the road.. yep the wolfs and other factors can wipe them to zero. looks as if the deer will have to be reintroduced to your area. you all have patiance off steel, if i did see a few deer i would have to pass to let them reproduce.....i wish all off you guys/ladies the best .. never have i seen people try so hard noing it might be a miracle.. good people here.
