I've never really been a fan of Anthrax, but I've always respected Scott Ian. Very down-to-earth guy, respectful to whomever he's talking to, just a great attitude. BTW, I was surprised when I heard that Mike Hickey was Joe's guitar tech. His hometown is about 30 minutes from where I live in Massachusetts.

I call it the Eve Bit The Apple moment, when i became aware. for me it was Rush Hemispheres at age 12. All of the sudden all these elements became apparent to me, particularly drums as a sorta lead instrument. So thats when i wanted to be a drummer for the 1st time, i wanna do THAT!

I have to admit I was never an Anthrax fan because I never listened to them. It was all Slayer and then black metal etc., I always saw him in the guitar mags end just never had a shred of interest. It wasn’t until about a year ago when I saw a clip of him playing with Mr.Bungle, I started to take notice of what a solid rhythm player he really is. Now I have nothing but total and complete respect. When the last question about the best band new metal band of the last 10 years came up, my immediate thought was Code Orange (there’s others of course), when he said Code Orange I almost fell off my seat. Great series you have going here Joe, respect to you and Ian.

I think Scott and I are about the same age. Our music interest are very similar. I remember watching The Who the kids are alright when I was 7 or 8 and was amazed at what I saw and heard. Then I also got into Kiss. I too wanted and tried to be a rock guitarist but I don’t have the skill. I remember the early days of metal when I lived in LA. Some great bands!

Does it have anything to do with how great of a musician he is? I don't know him, he won't be at my house, so what he does or doesn't do off stage is irrelevant to me as a music consumer. (Fan) Artists are weird, that is what sets them apart. Just listen to the music and enjoy.
@michaelcarey93594 жыл бұрын
I don't understand why Scott Ian is here, outside of relating stories of the 80s. Anthrax was little more than an ephemeral imagined "thrash band". Anthrasx is great, as an opening act, just like the Three Stooges were for shorts before the movie... As a kid from the 80s, I realize and understand exactly why Anthrax is pretty much the dead end of Arena Rock.. Anthrax and Scott Ian are exactly why the non-tribals ditched Anthrax for the Grunge. Black Lodge is their best song, and nothing takes away from it, but Ian is really ignored, and for good reason.
