Tornado sirens make it so much scarier. The droning of the alarm against the roar of the tornado makes it sound like background music to a horror film.

I remember the tornado that hit my house last year on December 9th. It’s such a traumatic experience. Every time it rains and thunders, and I am alone by myself with my dog I just pick her up and run into the bathroom. That rain and thunder is messing with my mind.

Try medical marijuana, I have severe ptsd and when it thunders too much I look at weather on my phone every 5 minutes. None hit us yet but hurricane Katrina did spawn one on us that was forming. The medical marijuana will help you greatly and make you sleep when weather won't become this. We don't have sirens so we get no warning.

This is beyond horrifying. Glad to see Kansas people taking this seriously; they were movin! I keep seeing people treating it like it's another day. When the sirens went on last summer in Chicago, my neighbor was on his roof, staring at the clouds. Had a bout of storms a week ago, sirens went off again, and a tornado actually did touch down about seven blocks away, tearing up all the 100+y.o. trees on that block

I've only went through 1 tornado incident in my life. My dad was stationed at Ft. Polk, Louisiana back in the mid 90's. We went camping at Toledo Bend for the weekend and on the 2nd night we had severe storms, just popped out of nowhere and you hear it, loud tornado sirens blaring out with no visual of the tornado because it was at night and views blocked by dense forest, we could feel the pressure changing, winds picking up and really no shelter other than a car or a small trailer we rented. Luckily, we got through the night and in the morning not even knowing where it hit we could see the damage and the path it left just 1/4 mile away. No deaths or injuries as it passed through where houses and buildings were far apart from each other. Never been back to Louisiana or any other tornado states. I'm happy right here in the desert.

Growing up in Oklahoma if it was daylight we would be out driving when possible during warnings to be somewhere else when they came through. Conditions and visibility controlled those choices but when possible watch them and if we couldn't see be getting way out of the way and then always try to help after. If your informed and experienced I just felt it was safer than being trapped in a hole. You can bet every home I ever lived in had a basement tho and everyone within running distance knew it.

He said they'd go outside to spot where it was, figure out which way it was headed. If it was headed directly at them they would get in the car and drive a half mile or so to get out of its way and then sit there until it passed. My brother's house had no basement and they would all go into the central bathroom which was reinforced, lie down in the tub, pull blankets over themselves and hope for the best.

Did you know ..Tornadoes almost always rotate counterclockwise (cyclonic) north of the equator and clockwise (anti-cyclonic) south of the equator. The same is applicable to hurricanes / cyclones -- they rotate counterclockwise in the northern hemisphere and clockwise in the southern hemisphere. One of the most remarkable features of our solar system is that nearly all of the revolutions and rotations are in the same direction. From a point high above the north pole of the solar system the planets are revolving about the sun and rotating about their axes in a counterclockwise direction,
