It programs and controls the relays for lights and other accessories not for engine and a communicates to the PCM

but he saying ( I think) why do we need one . didn't need one before to turn things on and off in the 1960's 1970's 1980's and maybe later. I think the only reason they do now is to send impulses zeros and ones that only need low voltage. and they can use smaller diameter wire is the only reason I can think of

I just stumbled onto this video and I can really appreciate the knowledge and experience of the author here! (Kudos To You!!!). Now to answer the question of the BCM.... It's 's all born out of emissions restrictions. OEMs' are forever trying to meet the moving target of "efficiency" and vehicles are no longer being made with relay logic and electromechanical controls. Almost all lighting is now LED because it can be controlled with Pulsewidth. They are trying to phase out resistive loads in favor of sharp lighting which isn't warm and makes you hate driving at night. They don't give you robust alternators or hefty power busses anymore. Its all controlled by the BCM for power moding management. You can't even run lead acid batteries if the vehicle is made for AGM because they won't charge adequately. The bcm will even turn off the charging system. Whatever you do, don't buy any 2007+ diesel. It's even worse you'll absolutely hate hate hate your vehicle! In modern diesels the ecm and the bcm actively work together to keep you stranded or in the shop. Solution: follow this guy's channel and learn how to modify your own circuitry (professionally). Look for custom calibrations to flash imto your BCM. Liberate your vehicle from the nanny state.

@@WorthyCorington so that's the reason they couldn't leave everything alone with the relays easy to fix circuits. I hear you about the newer car headlight systems no more warm lighting in your mirrors, and coming. at you. Just the other day I tried pulling over every time a blinding car with halogen or led lights got behind me. It worked sometimes but not long and there couple more. I hate driving at night now have to turn my mirrors so I can't use them.
