I am 62 and have tears in my eyes as I listen to this .... remembering back to a different time, a time of my youth. Everything back then was new and exciting. I had energy enough to light New York at night. Life was fun, going out was an experience, and life was full of promise. I was young, good looking, and ready to face the world. ............. I miss those days ............

I was eleven years old when this came out and as a black man of fifty one,I still love it. If a song connects with me I don’t care who it’s by or what colour the artist is or was. A great track is a great track if you feeling it,granted I like so genres more than others but still won’t stop me listening or appreciating good music from artists that are a outside my usual sphere. It’s what is so great about music, the discovery of a track or group that really grabs you, even if it’s not what you are expected to like.Peace and love my to all the music lovers,it will always see us through ❤️🙏🏾👊🏾

I was 9 when this song came out in 1982. I heard it in the grocery store today, and it certainly took me right back to the early ‘80s again. Life was so, so simple back then. I didn’t know it, but my career in computers was about to begin with a Commodore 64 in the wings. Roller rinks, arcades, bowling, hanging with friends in real life for hours till dark…and amazing music like this. I hope kids reading this can enjoy some of that spirit through this song. It’s not easy, but put down the phone and just enjoy the sights and sounds of life and the world around you…time flies!!

So, I was born under the harsh winter skies in December 1981 in Pocatello, ID of all places. This song has always had this strange primordial thing about it for me, as though I came into the world knowing it. It feels that deep down at the base of my brain this was one of the first pieces of recorded music my ears to notice of without any judgement, analysis, or whatnot--just that my ears took notice and has long been acknowledged in my head for some reason. Killer song nonetheless.

When I first got this sheet music my freshman year of high school, I took it to the high school band teacher and ask for help learning to play it (every possible sharp, the whole thing is played on black keys). I met Joe Jackson in the 1980s when he did an interview in a different department of my TV network. I saw him carrying his guitar to the elevator when I called to him to say hello. He got off the elevator and took a few minutes to visit with me before getting on with his day. What a great talent and nice guy!

I worked in a Soho bar in NYC in the early 2000's. All kinds of folk in the middle of it all. And musicians mixed with artists mixed with movie folk. A haven if equality, so to say. And everyone knew everyone's business, game or not. There was one customer that came in occasionally for lunch. Quite, unassuming and silently amiable. One of us. But the only one we never asked a name of..

1982 was part of the PEAK of modern civilization. Some would say 1976 till 2000 is the peak since that's POST-Vietnam but PRE-911. However, I would argue it's 1976 till 2014 since it's after Vietnam but a year before all the modern day political crap would begin. So I'm going with 1976 till 2014. However, I would argue that the 1980's is the BEST decade (the vast majority of things are near perfect, with few exceptions) and 1982 truly hits that sweet spot of paradise.

As a black kid growing up in the projects I will never forget the October Monday morning in '94 where it was the day of one of my friends' funeral in the grocery store today, and it certainly took me right back to the early ‘80s again. . I had energy enough to light New York at night. This song was on my clock radio as I was waking up and I was just on my clock radio as I was waking up. It was a friend who really touched my life and gave me the appreciation for humor. Honestly, crushed, tears. The drums, the soul, gone. Mixed with the emotions of the pain of childhood, and the being ostracized and cruelty of being made fun of, pushed and hit, in high-school. If you hate gay, lesbian and transgender people, PLEASE don't share that with your children, PLEASE. Those angers, fears or feelings of uncomfortable, trickle down to your children, and then to the kids they go to school with. Then, the kids at school gather in their confusion or hate, and destroy other children. It is a vicious cycle of pain, sorrow, depression and death. I implore you to have humanity, for a fellow soul. Let our true kindness, compassion, and love for one another, shine! Thank you, RUSH, for being a beacon of tolerance, and love.

This song "Stepping Out" along with "Little Red Corvette", "Who's Cryin Now", "Wheel in the Sky", and "Arthur's Theme" had a POSITIVE HOPEFUL MAGICAL impact on me and my life when I, 1st heard these songs in the 1980's as a child. There was no negative feelings coming from these songs. These songs were just about life, falling down and then pulling your self up. Example, a line from Journey's "Who Cryin Now", "There are so many tears you can cry".

I remember in 1982 when I was 19 years old and working as a longshoreman unloading ships. Our group of guys were usually pretty loud and rambunctious however this song came on the radio one day as we were passing cargo down the line. Somehow the music created a surreal moment where everyone seemed to be moving in unison to the rhythm, happy and efficient. I never forgot that moment. As soon as the song ended everything went back to the hell hole of a job it actually was, but there was that brief respite.
