this is one of the most gifted special talents this sport has ever seen. don’t forget he didn’t pick up a basketball until he was 15 and still almost went number 1 in the draft after his freshman year. don’t forget he missed his first 2 and a half seasons after getting drafted. don’t forget that a 7 foot 280 pound man is not supposed to do the things he’s doing athletically and skill wise. people always say “appreciate greatness” but don’t even realize it in what they’re watching with certain players because of narratives. his playoff shortcomings are a valid criticism, but that shouldn’t completely take away from what he’s doing on a nightly basis and how he improves every year.

AD’s problem besides health concerns is that his midrange jumper is relatively inconsistent and his passing vision isn’t quite on the level of even Giannis or Embiid, let alone Jokic. If AD could solidify just one of these two weaknesses he could bring himself up the the level of those three MVP winners, especially since he’s arguably the best team defender out of the 4

In the playoffs defense schemes are different because they have more time to prepare. The sixers need one more guy that can help embiid and maxey with the scoring load.

He was unluckily always injured. 2023 - he had a knee sprain and needed to play through it. 2022 - he had fractures on his face + he had a torn ligament in his thumb and play through them. 2021 - he played thu a torn meniscus. 2019 - he had knee tendinitis. 2018 - he had orbital fracture. The only year he was completely healthy in the postseason was 2020. Whatever you call him, injury prone or unlucky, the fact is he played thru lots of injuries and that's the main reason why he underperformed in the playoffs.
