Hi Simon, your daughter is old enough to do what my daughter did with my granddaughter. Get a small string of Christmas lights and put them on a timer so they come on when she supposed to be in bed and go off in the morning when she’s allowed to be awake. My daughter put them in a small pierced tin flower pot to make a nightlight, although you could string around the room or do other fun decorating things with them. If the child wakes up in the middle of the night, and the lights are still on, it’s too early for the child to bother the parents. She can color with crayons or read books or play with toys, but she’s not allowed to bother the parents unless it is a real emergency, as long as the night light is still on.

Simon: my nieces and nephews are Quebec french and their parents are hippies. Their names are not only unlearnable in the first time theyre heard, the spellings are tricky after decades. To this day I can SAY them, but I think I can only actually spell 2 out of 8 confidently. Thankfully their parents gave them all adorable nicknames and I remember those just fine!

@@inuchan74I thought so too until I saw Dreading's post on this subject. Joel Guy Jr. was an unbelievable narcissist, and he likely assumed that he was a much more important figure in his friend's life than he actually was. It may have been "romantic" on JG Jr.'s side, but his friend is so laid-back in court, and so casually critical of his supposed best friend, that I was convinced after watching the video that there was no non-platonic or serious relationship between them except maybe in Jr.'s imagination. Highly recommend the video on this if you're interested!

It's actually very interesting how you can see Joel's personality in his crime. There are aspects that are extremely well thought out, you can tell that this is the plan of someone who *is* very intelligent. He plans how exactly he'll do the deed complete with separating and distracting his victims, he plans how he'll dispose of the bodies, and he sets himself up to have an alibi. But you can also see his social incompetence, as well as his over-confidence at play. He underestimates how quickly people would notice his parents missing (due in no small part to him not understanding how quickly an employer would notice a missing employee), so he concocts a plan of bodily disposal that would take several days. He's so confident he won't get caught that he leaves the journal where he outlines his plan *at* the scene of the crime (never mind the lack of common sense in even just owning a journal like that). He could not envision this plan not going exactly as he wanted it to go, so why even bother trying to clean up or hide any evidence? It will all be ashes in a day or two anyway. Why be concerned with people noticing the suspicious objects in your car? They're stupider than you are, you don't need to be concerned with them noticing anything. As intelligent as the plan is, it's wildly dumb and inept. Just like Joel himself.

They didn't deserve this by any shot of the imagination but what did they really expect? He was going to go from getting everything in life handed to him to being a DR having to work 70 + hours a week?! Haaaa. Not. He was going to be their downfall no matter what. It is just heartwarming to hear Simon talk about his kids. His attitude towards them is fantastic, knowing there’ll be trials and tribulations with raising kids. He knows what he signed up for, understanding, that at times it seem’s so difficult, you hope you can get through it, and he is taking full responsibility for it. He does not transfer these responsibilities to his children. “Yes, I want my children to succeed, but what I really want is for them to be happy!”, is definitely a big brain thought, and knowing what place some people put their their children, with them showing total compliance, etc, I’m just so happy to hear it 💙🩷💜😊

My sister was BADLY financially abusing my dad, and took somewhere between 25-40% of his 200k retirement buyout, ruining his and my mom’s retirement plans. My sister was in a relationship with someone who “talked her into” lying to my dad saying they needed money for food, rent, groceries, etc, when they were actually going to concerts, buying clothes, weed (and other drugs, I know her ex spoke of cocaine usage) and getting other unnecessary things. Neither worked, neither even tried to get a job. My sister is out of that relationship now and with another guy, who already had been financially abusing his elderly mother with dementia. They’re supposedly getting better, but it’s so hard for me to trust either of them after what they put my family through. I feel horrible thinking this, but my dad recently passed away due to a heart condition, and in a really twisted way… I’m thankful he’s no longer under my sister’s thumb. She was horrifically cruel to him and made him doubt himself a lot. The way he used to get all shy, but had a big ol’ dopey smile on his face as I would boast and brag about what an awesome dad I had told me a lot.

Lol Joel's half too big face is from 100% an abcessed tooth. It's pretty common for the jaw to swell up like that when you have an abcessed molar. Pretty classic presentation, and can literally happen overnight. Very painful unless you've had a root canal done - I hope he was in severe pain.

Another bit of info: there's a recording of Joel talking with his ex from jail. Joel told him that he wanted the money to get a gastric bypass and plastic surgery so that he would "look good enough" to be with him. The poor ex bf was audibly horrified at the very idea. I think Joel was just trying to manipulate the ex into feeling sorry for him or trying to push blame onto someone else. What a piece of trash.

Not done watching, but just wanted to say that your advice at 13:50 is absolutely good parenting. I taught for a number of years and the complete lack of boundaries that parents have with their kids (insofar as giving them everything they want, never saying no, never allowing kids to suffer the consequences from their actions, etc) is the biggest factor in creating entitled kids who then turn into entitled adults. The best advice I ever heard for good parenting is to never do for a child what a child can do for themselves. Update: Oh my gosh, your dig at Joel about not knowing how to finish the job because he'd never had one had me in stitches. xDD 46:21
@baydiac
@baydiac Жыл бұрын
I still firmly believe in the "secret fund" method. Your child turns 18 and you request they start paying rent below market value (if they're not busy with schooling anyway, but be firm with them that outside of extenuating circumstances you'll only pay for 4 years of university and then it's on them for rent again)... and then when they're ready to move out, surprise! The "rent" money was funneled into a savings account all along, and you contribute it to their housing budget (whether house downpayment or to help them with rent, we do live in a 2023 housing market hellscape). They thought they could only afford a shoebox of an apartment or that they'd be paycheck to paycheck, when there's been a safety net all along to be grateful for. You teach them to be responsible and learn the value of money AND show them you care and want them to succeed on both counts. (Because in this economy parents who charge rent and keep the money are basically saying they never want their children to move out. Like, with what money will they be going anywhere????)

Keep pushing with disability. The processors are trained to deny all first-time claimants. Many who are of a jaded mindset find any excused to kick the paperwork back/lose paperwork or think of extra hoops for you to jump through. Thanks for uploading! I heard that Joel, Jr. had to return to Baton Rouge to seek medical attention for his hands as one or both of his parents had fought back. If he had had no cuts, he was going to continue with his plan to denature and flush his parents, then blow up the house with all evidence inside. A true crime show I watched recently said he experimented which chemicals would work the quickest by soaking dog bones in various solutions in his bathroom in Baton Rouge. And he was so lazy, he never got rid of the Rubbermaid bins containing all his experiments. As for the dog, police waited for SWAT teams to clear the house as they weren’t sure someone was hiding in the room where the dog was found. It looked like a black Labrador, shown on Body Cam when police took the dog to the next-door neighbor for safety.

The ending brings up a issue I wondered about. "Public Defenders at odds with their clients." This goes into: 1) PD that don't want to defend the client. What happens in those situations? 2) what are the most insane cases PD were forced to deal with? Because, lets face it, the PD in this case, they atleast tried. whether you are pro or anti lawyer, you have to give a tip of the hat for the the PD for trying. And can you imagine clocking into work that day and see this file dropped on your lap!

It's more likely a oversized gland that and that area happens to easily collect fat tissue, since he was a rather big and did not like to exercise. Human bodies are weird and can collect fat in really illogical areas.

@@meeapeeaHe doesn't have the same issue during the trial, or before the murders from what I can see. So it's pretty likely that it is some kind of infection

It's been suggested it was a goiter, which would also explain his bulging eyes.

A tip for dealing with phone scammers is to answer the phone in a foreign language. Bonjour. A lot of scammers just aren't prepared to speak a language that isn't English, and will hang up.

I lived in Surgoinsville TN from 2011-2013! That's really wild. I traveled a LOT in my early 20's and have lived in like 10 places mentioned between Simons channels and Coffee House Crime. So weird sometimes. It was either Jim Jones or Marshall Apple white that developed a large part of their early following in my hometown that i live in now in NC. Small world.
