I live in NSW Australia and I vividly remember this case. It was so tragic and I have always felt sad for the father of the family. My grandparents lived not too far from where these murders took place and I can't help but think of how ordinary the streets and the people are, but STILL something horribly violent can occur right next door to you! Matthew should at least have the decency to admit to his crimes and explain to his father why he killed his mother, brother, and sister. I would hate to be Mathew's father because no parent wants to believe that their beloved child is capable of committing such brutality against their own flesh and blood! I understand that Mathew is now 46 years old and is likely a different man from the 18 year old boy who committed such a heinous crime, but still I would NOT like my own daughters to be involved with someone who did such a thing, regardless of how long ago. I hope that he stays out of trouble but violent tendencies can manifest quickly if the individual is provoked. I just hope that the Parole Board did the right thing! We'll have to wait and see! Thanks CF for another brilliant episode. Its appreciated!

Actually, as he has NEVER admitted an iota of guilt, his living family enabled him, and he is truly one of the most vicious types of narcissists = A Family Annihilator; from experience and documented psychology, Matthew is incapable of change or maturing. He may, however, have learned to be a lot sneakier.
@StrawberryFieldsNIR9 күн бұрын
I just looked up the case, he was paroled in 2019, after serving only 23 years for triple homicide. That sentence was a joke, being able to get parole so quickly, serving less than 8 years per murder. Yes, most definitely a narcissist - I think you have to be in the family annihilation 'business'. I agree with tablescissors, he has probably just learned to become more sneaky.

Unless you've ever had a loved one do something terrible, you'll never understand being in the position of both realizing they did it & loving them anyway. Matthew De Gruchy's father is neither deluded nor stupid. He lost everyone he loved in one terrible act, including his eldest son. I cannot imagine living with that kind of pain.

The love you have for your child is stronger than any other love you can have. I always see comments about parents standing by their kid's side after a crime and the public scrutinizing them for it. We tell our children that theres nothing they can do to make us stop loving them. We are supposed to mean that. No one ever thinks their child would harm another, much less this. I can't imagine going through this. The anger and pain would be unbearable and beyond comprehension. I dont have judgment for his dad. I never want to know what he has been through. I dont think I could continue.

I don't recall all the details, but there's a doc about two parents whose son murdered his sister, their daughter obviously, but they still have a relationship with him and visit him in prison regularly. There was no question of his guilt or anything, he confessed, and it was violent. There was a scene where they get to throw a party for him in prison. Honestly, even though I felt for them, it made me sick. I get where you're coming from, but as a parent myself, I think that kid would be dead to me forever. It's one of a very few things that's just unforgivable.

I don't believe he thought his son did it till he had to sit so long with the detective such a long time after. I really think he had some soul searching that brought on his need to discuss it with the detective and then had to reassess what he believed. That must be devastating to the poor man

A neighbor and friend of mine has a son who murdered his fiancé, her 13 yo son, and tried to murder her two daughters. My neighbor was a broken woman. She adored her son but it was very hard for her to deal with. She knew he did it but she had a hard time coming to terms with that. I felt so sorry for her. I can't imagine what that is like. But I do know that if it was me, I would still love my son, too. There are more victims of a murder than just those who are dead. 😢

The son was violent towards the mother and the father let him get away with it? I have a stepson that used to live with us, his father kicked him out when he was 18 because he was selling marijuana out of our house. We only had a couple of rules, no drugs in the house, no weapons and no violence and he broke the first two and was warned, when we discovered on christmas eve he was selling from our house his father gave him 4 weeks to move out. If he had behaved violently towards me or anyone in our family his father would have kicked his a**, kicked him out and never let him back in. The father in this case failed his whole family.

I just don't understand why. Without the note that showed it was premeditated, I would have assumed it was a crime of passion: He argued a lot with his mother and killed her in one of those heated arguments. Then he panicked and murdered his siblings to cover his tracks. That makes sense to me. I just don't understand the motivation here.
@tablescissors23 күн бұрын
Look up Family Annihilators and their psychology, it may help to answer a lot of understandable questions; it is difficult to see through the eyes of a violent (narcissistic) psychopath and it should be. His father played a role in that development process and there was good reason that the son did not look for an opportunity to include patricide among the plot.
@StrawberryFieldsNIR9 күн бұрын
Please NEVER use the phrase 'crime of passion'. It is used to excuse violent or controlling domestic abusers (who kill their partners). Those crimes are crimes of control and punishment, nothing to do with 'passion'. In this case, it was probably a crime of anger, again, NOT 'passion'. Also both mother and sister were in bed, so how is that any kind of 'heat of the moment'? Of course it was a calculated execution of mother and siblings. There are exactly zero cases anywhere where the term 'crime of passion' is accurate. Please remove it from your vocab.
@raven65659 күн бұрын
@StrawberryFieldsNIR I meant the term as a crime commited in the heat of the moment where anger is high and someone snaps. But thank you for asking me what I meant instead of going off on a lecture to a stranger on the internet. It does not at all reflect poorly on you.
@StrawberryFieldsNIR8 күн бұрын
@@raven6565 I really do not care how it reflects upon me. You used the phrase, then followed that with only the note convincing you of the premeditation. Like, your first clue really should have been killing two of them in their beds/asleep - shows point blank, there was nothing the victims did in that moment to 'set him off'. I get sick of people on the internet excusing violent and dangerous men with 'crime of passion' or 'he lost his temper'. Defending them with that sort of nonsense reflects badly on you.
@raven65658 күн бұрын
@StrawberryFieldsNIR It clearly shows you don't care as you seem to think that you're entitled to lecture a stranger because of your own issues. And you're clearly off your rocker if you think I'm defending that. Lastly, if you're tired of people doing that, then don't read the comments on true crime.

But knowing what it's like to fear one major sibling in your entire household is the only thing I can slightly understand in this. But I couldn't understand what it feel like for the father or anyone surviving after on how they feel about his son. I can acknowledge I probably would not be the same, or would I do the same. @lisas8244Ай бұрын
Absolutely nothing in this documentary even slightly hinted that Matthew's father was abusive so why would you even assert an unfounded "possibility" that it could have been the case? That kind of talk is slander and inexcusable. Comments should be based on fact and not "maybes". This is a human being's life, character and reputation you are playing fast and loose with.
@AryasvitkonaАй бұрын
@@lisas8244 I said it as a qualifier to help express how horrific what he's going through is. Also I find it hard to believe Matthew didn't get fucked up somehow, and abuse is typically how that happens. I know it wasn't mentioned however is a frequent problem in criminals childhoods. As a finale, I'm not playing fast and loose. Do you understand that I'm saying even if he was abusive he's still a poor man? That should say how strongly I feel he suffered as a result of his sons actions.
@lisas8244Ай бұрын
@@Aryasvitkona Speculation should not enter into discussions when people's lives, feelings and reputations are at stake. A family member may very well watch this video and suffer because of what you threw out there. Apparently, you are not aware that some children can be born bad seeds, develop no conscience and be void of any attachment to their parents or siblings, have complete lack of compassion for others and they are considered sociopaths by psychologists and psychiatrists. The other siblings of children like this are completely normal and their brother or sister is an aberration. Matthew was not mad at his father. He was the only one whose life he spared. Some people refuse to accept there are children like this who were in fact not abused to make them the way they are. They are bent on blaming the parents because the thought of a child randomly being born without a conscience is too frightening for them to consider. It means that it could happen to any parents no matter how supportive and loving they are which, in turn, means it could happen to them. It's much easier to arbitrarily label the parents as unsupportive or abusive so they can sleep at night, knowing they are wonderful parents and it could never happen to THEIR family.

I'm De Gruchy what happened is that the Nazi's moved in on top of us and started to live our life's. We were tortured by Nazi's in concentration camps. I still have a Nazi who sit with the papers from Jersey channel island that Nazi's took when they invaded our personal private lives.

They never really loved them in the first place, a true sociopathic/psychopathic narcissist only cares about themselves; they do not have an ability for empathy or guilt, their families are only a burden who drain resources and freedom as far as they are concerned. This attitude will eventually extend to the rest of society.
