Speaking as someone who has lost both parents and many relatives… when tragedy strikes we must pray, count our blessings, offer encouragement to others who are affected by the tragedy and spend the rest of the time with God to heal from the incident. I have also looked for the positives around a tragic situation and the blessing is always there when you look for it. When you discover that you can begin to heal and find hope rather than fear as you look toward the future. My mother passed when I was 15 from cancer. I thank god that I had 15 beautiful years with a phenomenal mother. My father passed in 2021 from Covid. I thank God that he lived a long and wonderful life of 77 years and we had a beautiful relationship. I cry and sulk as I grieve especially alone but when I am with others I try my best to encourage them and remind myself that we are still so very blessed and God is still in control. Our days are numbered. One of the only guarantees in life is death. I believe that when it is our time we will all pass away and I hope and pray that those who knew us can focus on the blessings rather than the tragedy.

I've seen Joel Osteen at funeral giving a speech with a smile on his face just like this, and then when he couldn't hold it in anymore, he broke down and cried while smiling, while giving the speech. He speaks to the masses. His role is different. Not every Christian is at the same maturity level. It’ll never be that way. Not only that but some Christians never mature. Paul writes about how you can’t give babies steak. You give them milk. You can’t speak to immature Christian’s the same way you do the disciples. They are not ready to go past the basics of the word. Jesus loves u, Jesus saves u. Jesus heals u. I believe Joel has an evangelistic mantle over his ministry. He functions as a pastor which is his primary ministry but the mantle of evangelism is over it. Some pastors move in 1 or more of the 5 said ministries. Who goes to church on Sundays? Everyone! It’s damn near a routine for people! It’s just like something u do on Sundays. Especially here in the western world. This is who Joel speaks to, passer by Christians. It’s ok. We don’t know what he does on weekdays, maybe he has discipleship nights that aren’t aired bcuz it’s not for everyone but just the disciples.

I won't deny he's good at encouraging. But we are not only called to encourage, also warn, rebuke, admonish. The problem with these mega churches, they need plenty of money to keep running, and that's why many become people pleasers, water down the message, not to offend anyone, and push people away, or else they won't receive the support. Also these women preachers, they confuse God's long-suffering and great patience, with unconditional love, and the unconditional love message, is what causes people to no longer see the importance of obedience, and walking in the fear of the Lord, because they start believing, they can sin, and it won't bother God at all. When the people of God become lukewarm, carnal, selfish, unloving, uncaring, and unholy, encourage messages won't do any good, that's when you need to hear what the Spirit is saying, and adjust your message, to bring the people out of their backsliding and back to God

The moment he starts off by saying it could have been a lot worse just comes off as completely inappropriate coming from someone in a leadership position. The dynamic of this whole statement comes across as a rehearsed presentation and not something that comes from the heart at all. This man does not seem to show any empathy for other people.
