@jax11677 күн бұрын
no, that's the third window now where we haven't strengthened and it won't matter that we kept isak for the rest of this season when we will end up having to sell him in the summer if we miss out on champions league football
@ian-flanagan7 күн бұрын
@@jax1167You’re right, but buying now means not buying earlier. Who would you rather have not bought? Barnes maybe? With hindsight. But since we don’t get the benefit of hindsight, saving money earlier would have risked missing out on Isak, Bruno, Gordon, Botman etc. if we waited. The owners front-loaded their spending power early in the 3-year window. It was a risk, and it feels frustrating now, but personally I wouldn’t change it

@stephenderry94887 күн бұрын
I don't see what there is to explain. The start of summer is the smart time to buy and pay the lowest fees, January is the smart time to sell and get the highest fees. Even so, Spurs just had a £70 million bid for Guehi rejected. If we held on to Almiron and Kelly until summer we wouldn't get anything LIKE £30 million for them and we'd still have to find enough funds to hop over that 30th June PSR hurdle. Last summer was a little disrupted because of the Ashworth situation, by the time Mitchell was in post (certainly at the time the Guehi bids went in) selling clubs were already ramping up their prices. But the for January windows either side it was sensible not to buy regardless, unless the need was absolutely dire (Bruno, Trippier, Burn) or a bargain came up that was absolutely unignorable (Gordon).
@thomasc93517 күн бұрын

@@jamesmilligan2797There’s a set amount of PSR power in the first 3-year window. We spent early, so tighten our belts now. The only way to spend now is not have not bought someone in previous windows. With hindsight, we could pick one or two recruits we could have done without, but there’s no hindsight when recruiting, so there’s a risk we might have missed out on Isak, Gordon, Bruno, Botman… I don’t think I’m happy-clapping here. Spending early and getting CL early was hugely successful for the future finances. I can easily tolerate the first frustration of these last few windows. When are we going to spend.theres always storeys of us wanting players but nothing ever happens. Are we being mugged off.
@Robert.Sheard7 күн бұрын
Everyone is tired of hearing about PSR, but our club didn't invent it. It's pointless going after the club. The numbers are what they are. Fortunately, this system ends in favor of squad cost controls next season (I hope), which are easier to understand. Under the new system, we have a spending limit for wages and transfers of 85% of our revenue (70% limit if we get a European slot). So if our revenue is around 300 million (Kieran Maguire's estimate), we have just 210 million to spend if we're in Europe. Given that the wages are already about 170 million, that doesn't leave a lot of room for new signings and improved contracts for our best players. We're still going to have to sell players regularly. But each sale frees up a little more because new transfers can be amortized over 5 years. Until revenue increases considerably, we're in this battle every year.

Newcastle have to find a way to correct their abysmal home form of the last two games. St James Park is usually a fortress so not sure what went wrong there recently. Arsenal look in red hot form atm and can easily blitz Newcastle if they turn up in the kind of shape they have been in recent home games. Newcastle have to be brave aswell and take risks on the counter attack. Can see Arsenal scoring two goals so they would need atleast 1 one goal to be on the safe side. I think in recent games Newcastle just stopped playing, showing courage on the ball. That has to change.

He should represent the clubs position on these sales .. it’s because he blocked Wilson & Trippier’s sales last January that we had to sell Anderson and very nearly Gordon in the summer … he NEVER wants to lose a player if you believe his press conferences… the club did brilliantly to get good money for Miggy & Kelly .. that should be the position of the manager .

these Muppet journalists just not listening to the answers given is so pathetic, do they understand PSR, we have got 25 million for two players one we got on a free and the other lucky to get over 6mil,

Newcastle won't make it to the champions League probably but it's not Howe's fault. It's the owners fault for not backing him for 3 transfer windows in a row. Shockingly poor strategy.

Since the 3-year spending amount is fixed, would you rather have spent less in previous windows, to be able to spend more now? I’m happy to get CL early (and the finances from that), and lock down some amazing players when the chances came up. We’re probably missing some amazing signings now too, so hard to say which timeline is better. But to me, they’ve done well.

The fans need to be on top of their game as much as the players, we need a strong Geordie atmosphere tomorrow because that first goal is gonna be absolutely crucial!🖤🤍
