Your giddy excitement at his interpretation matched mine...it's like watching a master craftsman at work. So satisfying.

Whilst said in jest I'm sure I detected just a hint of sarcasm with the 'that's why they're double platinum and I'm just a prog metal guy' lol, he made it quite clear he felt it was overly simplistic. One of my favourite drummers, love his playing in Avenged Sevenfold's 'Save Me'!

Yeah I love him

I actually think he was legit... He knows that complicated beats do not sell platinum+, and that his sugar thusly doesn't - he's an artist in love with his craft and choose 5 mil over 5 bil a year. Nothing but love and respect from my keys

I think it was more of a sly critique of the simplicity of the audience rather than that of the musician.

Portnoy has done 2 other videos with them, and according the comments of the video there is still more to come. He did an performance of pull me under, and and hour long talk/playthrough of dream theater songs as well as a The Winery Dogs song and the intro to a Avenged Sevenfold track he preformed on. If you havent watched those I highly recommend it

Great performance of a great drummer! Fun watching...thanks for your brilliant reaction, as usual. By the way...got the ping to "Youth Killed It" as well, very nice tunes. Keep up the excellent work. All the best, Dennis

Daniel Adair is an absolute beast though! Definitely doesn't get the recognition he deserves, his drum solos were always epic live and his other band Martone shows bits of what he can really do. I'd love to see him on drumeo, he'd surprise a lot of people for sure

As a Canadian who dislikes Nickelback /(not virulently mind you. I just think they're extremely mid), I can give you at least my reasons. First: Canadian media has legislation referred to as CanCon (Canadian Content) mandating a certain amount of Canadian made content. This has the positive impact of promoting Canadian artists. Ot also had the negative impact of force feeding is material from a small selection of Canadian talent because radio is a steaming pile of shit with zero original thought and had been for decades. So the same few artists get overplayed and everyone else gets shafted. Nickelback is fucking everywhere on rock radio in Canada. They're unavoidable, and way overplayed. Additionally as someone who grew up listening to rock radio, but had since branched out to everything from kpop to classical to prog metal and free jazz, they're monumentally boring. I'd say inoffensive but the amount that Canadian radio plays their stuff is in fact offensive to me. There's simply nothing interesting to me about their music. I could say the same thing about basically every other post-grunge band of the same era. All that said, it's interesting to hear Portnoy play on this because there are so many little stylistic things he does that make his drinking stand out from the extremely basic drumming of the original.

Nickelback is like one of the worst rock bands I've ever heard. Yeah, they have a couple of catchy songs but whoever calls them "legends" or "classic" or "brilliant" is simply delusional. Unoriginal, unauthentic, boring and tasteless. I'd rather buy Bieber's album
