Life is hard enough without the trauma of being severely abused in childhood. When I saw this movie I immediately felt that I wanted to protect Sybil.

Phenomenal actress, Sally Field. One of the best of all time IMO. This seals it in my book.

I was married to someone who was severely abused by her mother. She talked conversations to herself which yrs ago which I didn't think nothing about it. After 15 yrs being married it seemed her whole personality changed and she started dating alot of different men but never finding happiness. After 17 yrs the marriage was ended and ive been divorced from her for over 12 yrs. She never had counseling and to.this day I still pray for her to be made whole. Sad!

Multiple personality disorder seems to be as prevalent today as it ever was. Watch the news and you’ll see people like this on a daily basis.

I hated her parents. Both the mother and the father. Especially the mother
@lornadalmeida67303 ай бұрын
The mother was a monster! How could she be so cruel & sadistic to her own daughter on a daily basis! She was mentally sick herself & nobody knew it or cared. Sybil was stronger & somehow survived by creating all those personalities to help her through her young life.

It sounds like the french lady of Sybil is the one who chooses which one to be active one of the bunch. She seems to be the stable one of Sybil. She fights with herself through in these persons. Sally field does this so well.

The French lady is Vickie, and while she is the dominant personality and the one who sent out other personalities at times...some of the other personalities seemed to come out at their own accord.
@shellyblanchard57883 жыл бұрын
@@DragonSlayer-je4mc if you noticed though she is the one is secure and doesn't have a care in the world. She kind of holds things together when Sybil panics. She lives in fanticy world.

@@shellyblanchard5788 Exactly, well-said. She is the "mother hen", the voice of reason & continuity. She remembers EVERYTHING, the only part of her that does. Its also her creation of a fantasy-world that helps Sybil survive....both in childhood & in adulthood. I imagine we all do this, spin wonderful happy fantasies when life gets too brutal.
@shellyblanchard5788 Жыл бұрын
@@taracollins5597 Sybil is more the frightened child of who took the abuse. She didn't take up for herself , and just let it happen. She held in her emotions and waited for it to be over with. She blanked it out through the others until her mother died then she really panicked because her tormenter was gone. Then she felt guilty because she wanted her mother dead, tried to commit suicide through another. I had a sister years ago was going through about the same problem, but she dealt with hers in a different fashion. Our mother had some severe emotional problems that she wanted to lie dormant. She didn't want us to grow up but be kids all of our life so she could control. She would throw fits if she couldn't. This was up until her late 70's in 1997. I learned a lot in the last 20 years.

To all and any one else here, and with respect, this full-film has been broacast here in the UK only once, and that was during the 1990's-, and then over two days. Information via various outlets suggest that the original, with VHS release was not very well accepted edited to such a degree to make it look like a "scary movie"; and but, does add that the DVD version is available in full; (only clips on you tube). Someone here says it's scary, I agree, and that's because it is real. The book is available. I digress: I am a mature guy therefore consider my next comment not inappropriate: I can not believe those whom give out awards for acting or similar merely awarded "Sybil" with an Emmy...In this industry, I assume, either here in UK or your USA then we all have "screen idles". Sally Field (same age as me now) is, was and will be always considered by me a very beautiful lady. Thank you.

They released it on DVD two years ago. A two-disc set that includes some fascinating extras about the whole production, and the entire original 1976 movie. Check on Amazon. That is where I found it.
