I am really enjoying this series and I hope you can continue with these videos, I really learn allot from them, as well as your other videos. At work I am learning to use a Haas machining center and these videos really help me out! thank you!

Hey Chubbza, good to hear from you. I watched his video and was amazed at his resolve. Pure desire. It was one of his moving into his new shop videos. But first he had to get his machines out of his basement. Wow.

Thanks Joe, great video. Did you know, some machines allow another 48 work offsets, stored as G54.1, G54.2 etc, up to G54.48? In practice though, these are rarely used.
@joepie221
@joepie221 7 жыл бұрын
No. I didn't know that. I'll have to see if that works on this machine. Thanks.
@fredgenius
@fredgenius 7 жыл бұрын
Mach3 uses a better system, you can use G54 P1, G54 P2, up to P254, so you can have 254 work offsets. Problem is remembering which is for what fixture lol!
@joepie221
@joepie221 7 жыл бұрын
That would be great if you had a tooling plate with pinned drop on tooling / fixtures. You would never have to change the offsets. just keep a few reserved for the odd jobs.
@fredgenius
@fredgenius 7 жыл бұрын
Beware though, I did some repairs on a Fanuc once, had to take the mobo out, when I re-installed it had lost all its work and tool offsets.

Cool, I have never used E values, always G54, 55 etc on HAAS and Fanuc controls. We have a fairly large semi-sacrificial aluminum plate that I use for thru hole ops on big stainless parts, It has a 1/2" hole in one corner stamped G110, I can send the machine to G 110 X0 YO , Stick a dowel in the hole and bolt it down and be REAL close to set up for another 36" 42 hole BC LOL Yea gotta turn the part at least once....... done bigger... If we had a mill with a table the size of an aircraft carrier deck I might be happy LOL
@vernonkarm8016
@vernonkarm8016 7 жыл бұрын
G53 = Cold Start Position. G54 = E1, G55 = E2, etc. You can use either on a Fadal, it will read the same. E1 is usually used in Format 1. Fixture offsets G54 etc are used by Fanuc controls (Format 2).
@joepie221
@joepie221 7 жыл бұрын
Thanks. I just started experimenting with the G54 codes when Brad asked me about them. I can utilize the E series offset quite easily.

Joe, do you use a spindle or table probe of any type for setting work offsets or tool offsets? It's extremely helpful and fast. I'm still working on writing some macros so I can run the probing macro at the beginning of a program to automatically set work offsets for me.
@joepie221
@joepie221 7 жыл бұрын
I don't use one. If I have a fixture with multiple locations, I drive from 1 central tooling hole and have the program hard coded to go to those other locations. my offsets are so easy and fast to set, I probably won't make the investment.

Enjoy your videos thank you. Recently purchased a Fadal 3016 myself so still getting familiar with it. Could you do a video on tool offsets if you ever have time? I am having trouble figuring out how to set the Z height without touching off every tool for different parts. Thanks again.
@joepie221
@joepie221 7 жыл бұрын
Unless you have a tool probe and standard carousel, you are somewhat locked into setting every tool everytime. If you standardize your tools, you could set a hard tip tool in one of your holders and reference the contact Z reading between parts and mass modify the entire carousel in the offset register. I have done that with 100% success.

Using only the G54 thru G59 yes. using the E system I use on my machine, I believe you can have 48. Fred Genius said you can split the G54 region into decimal numbers and get to 48 as well. I didn't know that.

Format 1 is Fadal format and Format 2 Fanuc format. From what i understand Format 1 (Fadal format) will run most or all of Fanuc commands "standard type g-code", I'm not positive because I run Format 2 mostly. I'm starting to run Format 1 aka Fadal format because it seems to give me more options especially when drip feeding with use of DNCX. I've never had any luck with the graphics function but my machine is much older and maybe graphics are not working for me because I'm drip feeding in format 2, I have no choice but to drip feed because of the age of my machine and the fact I have basically no memory in the controller to speak of. I think graphics may work better if I used Format 1. The YT channel "At-Man Unlimited" is an amazing channel for Fadal owners and is probably one of the best(and quickly becoming the best) resource for info on how to assess, run, program and maintain a Fadal machine that I have come across. Many thanks go out Joe Pie and Tim @ At-Man Utld along with all the others for all their time spent sharing their knowledge and experiences in machining with us. It's much appreciated!

I have been very happy with mine also. Compared to wasting time trying to figure out a USB to RS232 adapter that will work or hassling with the huge pain of getting and maintaining a old machine that has a serial port, the Calmotion is a no brainer! It just flat out works. Thanks Joe Edit: Hey joe you ever thought about or heard of anybody having any success using a wireless usb flash drive like this? www.google.com/search?q=wireless+usb+flash+drive&tbm=shop&source=lnms&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwi0woLm8pXTAhUP7GMKHbCcAysQ_AUICCgB&biw=1536&bih=774&dpr=1.25
