Hi John, The old juke is definitely talking shape ...and it’s sounding good too. Something for possible future reference: whenever I work on stereo amplifiers, I usually test, whist setting the balance using a signal injector, like you did. I feed in five frequencies: 200hzs, 500hzs, 1khz, 2.5khzs, and 4khzs signals to both channels, at a one third volume for, say, five watt amplifiers. Once I’ve set the balance control to around the centre of its travel to give equal volume from each of the speakers, that then becomes my reference. If there are any discrepancies in volume for either stereo channel, I can then say with confidence it is not due to the amplifiers. Anything of that sort might be due to external factors such as a dodgy cartridge (or stylus), substandard record recording, or tarnished input plugs and sockets. Just another consideration my friend. Regards, Phil.

Phil, Great advice, my friend, but the sound issues will have to wait further. The next vid will be up shortly. Regards, John

John, thanks for the voltage checks. I was happy to see that the voltage balanced out on the supply side of that resistor. It satisfied my curiosity on what you ended up with. Mark

John, I cannot remember the model of your amplifier. I am currently working on a Seeburg TSA1 solid state amplifier. This TSA1 had similar problem to yours. It had great volume on channel 1 , but channel 2 had little to none. My issue seems to be in the AVC, Squelching circuit. There are 3 dual selenium diodes in the circuit. The side that controls channels 2 (right side) is leaking voltage heavily cause an all time squelch. I figure this has nothing to do with your amplifier just an interesting thing I found. Hope your garden is doing well. I have tomatoes, peppers, and squash about to start blooming. Take Care, Cody

Cody, It's working a whole lot better now, but it's just an old worn out tube amp For me, it's the chase. Once this juke is fully functional, if ever, the fun will be over. Regards, John

I'd call that a win. Maybe clean up the balance pot and double check the grounding wires. Sounding pretty good. Maybe switch the speakers to verify its the channel.

A win? Not until the fat lady is singing from the speakers and the speakers are back in the cabinet. LOL Regards, John

Ah yes, now I remember. I’d forgotten the issue with grabbing the record at the end, as well as that chassis to sort out. I can’t remember how the mechanism worked but could you tack in some wires to test and compare voltages between when the record picks up and when it doesn’t. If it’s a mechanical issue, I’d try filming it close up with a camera that will do slow motion capture (a lot of smartphones do this now). That way you might be able to see what’s happening and what isn’t. Hope you manage to figure something out.

John, can you switch the outputs (R - L) on the cartridge to see if the lower output moves to the other side of the amp?
@stphinkle6 жыл бұрын
I wonder if there is a resistor or cap or perhaps one side of the phono cartridge is outputting louder than the other. I would check voltages as it is playing and such. I also wonder if the tubes are not matched.

Stephen, I wonder too. Regards, John

John, I notice that you are getting much more treble from Channel 2 then Channel 1. Is there a TONE control on this thing? If not there is usually a cap that controls this and ties back to pin2 of the 12AX7. Overall, really really nice my friend CONGRATS
@umajunkcollector6 жыл бұрын
I guess that they put a balance control becuz tube don't always match up. Mine has tone switches, low med hi for bass, lo med hi for treb. But mine is amf Rowe, much better than Seeburg. Didn't amf have Fender for a while? lol
