And I dont want to hear about Canelo's diet. He came into the fight underestimating Bivol... In interviews before the fight he was already talking about other opponents. Canelo is an all time great fighter, but he came into this fight vs Bivol underprepared and got thumped. Hope he bounces back from this, im sure he will.

@@axelfoley1812 It’s not just that. When a guys guard is tight like that you have to punch with them and take risks to shift the momentum. People not giving bivol his credit. Bivol has great hand speed. Moves his feet good for a guy his size. He's always under control. His defense was solid. And the difference in natural size and power was obvious. He had to expend minimal effort to cause the same effect of punishment in his punches compared to what Canelo was forced to do. When his exceptional hand speed for his size is matched with that power it results in the dominance we saw in that fight. I doubt Canelo will seek out that rematch. I can’t imagine it going drastically different next time.

Completely agree. Boxing is consistent pressure, footwork, accuracy, leading with the jab, hands up constantly - and do that for 12 rounds - and be excellent the whole time. Being a winner in boxing is being excellent at the basics ALL THE TiME. I thought canelo was drawing him in so he’d open up like he did will Billy J but Bivol is a different level. Looking forward to his next fight - hopefully his promoters get him the right fights !

His game plan weight diet juice ECT didn't diminish his boxing abilities that are second nature for him at this juncture of his long & illustrious career. The better boxer won from round one through twelve. He tried from the outside to the center of the ring to land scoring blows & counter punches all night. He was outboxed in every facet of the game imaginable. Footwork combinations accuracy jabbing distance management level changes feinting movement ring IQ speed changes counter punching TIMING even the exchanges while inside fighting Canelo was clearly frustrated all night. Defensively he was outclassed as well Bivol's guard is beautiful and his consistency is impeccable I'm shocked that most people thought Canelo would actually stop him no one gave him a chance. Canelo is an incredible boxer but let's be honest I've not seen Canelo get outclassed that badly since Erislandy Lara was robbed. Weight is not in any way a valid excuse especially given the fact that Bivol can easily make 168 & is currently trying to go down to take his belts. He's a small man for his weight class. Canelo was simply outsmarted & outboxed. I couldn't even give him two rounds (rewatched the fight twice now) which is astonishing. The judges were looking to rob Bivol from the outset perusal but they couldn't. Canelo's loss had nothing to do with diet and everything to do with style, gameplan, and the limitations of his own body. It's been covered up a bit by how average his competition has been at 168, but Canelo's gas tank and footwork have been really weighed down by fighting at higher weight classes. He just can't keep his style up for 12 straight rounds, and when you are fighting a guy like Bivol, someone who actually has decent power and a well rounded skillset, Canelo just doesn't have the ability to deal with them like he would at 160. He gasses too hard and since his power is less based on natural ability and more based on his skills, timing and leverage, he really has to bank on lining up a perfect punch or catching someone on a counter. That's much easier to do with guys like BJS and Plant, who don't have near the offensive skillset that Bivol does

It looked like Canelo was hitting a god damn brick wall all night, he’s just to small for 175lbs IMO! Even some of the big uppercuts he landed didn’t move Bivols head up or back much at all, looked like guys got an iron neck and walked right through everything Canelo threw. Also Bivol fought the absolute perfect fight man, he stuck to his game plan and was in control completely. Weirdly it wasn’t anything super technical either, it was a master class in basic fundamental boxing! High tight guard, control the distance continuously with the jab, while also using it to set up the hard 1-2 down the middle, then when available he was throwing basic 1-2-3/2-3 combinations with great timing, he even had some really nice inside counter punching on occasion. I personally had it 8 rounds to 4 for Bivol and that was being generous with one of the earlier rounds for Canelo, could have probably gone either way…

Stop with the excuses, it had nothing to do with size. He just got outboxed 🤦‍♂️. Bivol is not a big 175

How does size have everything to do with it when bivol walks around at 183 like most of the people at 168? The only difference is bivol cute do 175

Bivol had a great game plan, and followed it perfectly. Canelo just couldn’t hurt him the same way he beat the 168 guys

Bivol was very conservative with his power he had another gear to go to that he didn't have to use on canelo for the fight and won easily.

Exactly 😂 he was just too big for Canelo.. there is a reason weight classes exist. Canelo bit off more than he could chew..

@@daebak7370 you’re right I felt like he really tried to play it safe and tried to not get hit at all . imo he wasn’t trading as much as he could’ve like I see him against the other 175ers. Probably because he knows in vegas if he makes it seem like a close fight he’ll lose on the score cards.

@@TheGayJesus not much weight between the fighters on fight night. Bivol comes in at 185lbs and canelo is somewhere near there when he hydrates from 168 usually. Wouldn’t be surprised if he’s only a few lbs heavier when he fights at 175 compared to 168. Difference is bivol fights dudes that hydrate back up to near 200lbs and trades with them no problem. Canelos shots didn’t bother him at all lol.

Yup, it’s the diet and not the fact that he was out classed by a solid boxer.

Honestly speaking, that vegan meat wasn't the issue. Canelo got outboxed and outclassed. And he was loading up 2 out of his 3 punches and he hit air most of the times. Take all the animal meat you want, you ain't learning skills. Canelo is a world champ, he won the 175 belt anyway, better to take the GGG fight next after the second loss to Bivol is september.

Interesting discussion as always with Joe who knows how to convey a balanced and reasonable point of view in such an effective way. I was very surprised to hear him say that he doesn't know any athlete at elite level who are vegans though. What about the Diaz brothers, Lewis Hamilton, Novak Djokovic and so on ?! If these guys are not elite athletes then I don't know who is. I am not advocating a vegan diet for an athletic performance boost I was just really surprised by that statement.
